Well its the daily mirror and as reliable as our defense lately but it was to be expected...

Brendan Rodgers will not be allowed to break the bank to turn Liverpool into Champions League contenders.

The Kop boss has been told to expect a transfer budget of no more than £20million this summer.

And that means he will be forced to sell to enable him to bring in the four top-class players he wants to recruit ahead of an assault on the top four next season.

Rodgers has been assured that he will have the final say on the future of Luis Suarez, a player who would generate a fee in excess of £40m if he was made available.

That is a step that both Rodgers and Liverpool’s Boston-based owners are loathe to take given the Uruguayan’s hero status with the Anfield fans.

My guess, that is a little low.  I think it will be 25M or so, a bit more in the unlikely event we qualify for the EL.  Sturridge and Coutinho are a definite uptick, but overall Rodgers' ability to spend capital effectively is still open to question.  You can have differing opinions about the summer signings in the long term, however the degree to which they addressed immediate needs was somewhat below ideal.

I think its just a guesstimate based on our last summer window, rather than any actual source of information.

I still think the whole concept of a transfer budget in old fashioned. Rodgers will have a framework he work within, with younger players triggering the higher end and older players the lower end.

This. Could see us spending a net figure anywhere between as low as £15 million net or as high as £45 million net. It will depend on how far the money from sold players stretches, what deals can be completed and how cheaply we can fully stock the squad. If the squad is at full strength in Rodgers eyes he isnt going to buy for sake of it. Likewise if Rodgers has spent a specific amount and can add a £10 million 28 year old or a £20 million 22 year old as his final purchase FSG would sanction the bigger deal.

I can't see this being accurate myself. FSG have already stated they wish to turn LFC into a Champions League team and they must know that further invest will be required. I have read articles suggesting they are struggling finacially, but they are seasoned players at this type of thing! I don't think trimming the fat off the squad would be a bad thing, there are a few players there that need moving on not becasue of wages but because of ability.

I predict Suarez will stay, at least for one more season! But its vital we get into some form of European competition next season and pick up some domestic silverware.

Put this thread in the bin along with that rag some people call a newspaper I say. No quotes, made up insiders. Par for the course with this rabble. No more than a glorified gossip mag.

WHAT? ONLY 20M?!

Edit: Yes, I just compared FSG's rumored budget of 20m pounds to the evils of the Vietnam War, racism, and colonialism in general. I'm an irrational football fan...so fuck off!

I'm starting to think barring one or two occassional stories, the Daily Mirror is no better than the Daily Sport.

The Mirror used to be a damn fine paper, with an abundance of decent political stories & some decent sport pages.

Now, it's just a shitty crap wank tabloid, devoid of substance - with wall to wall stories on Jordans tits, that Jordan freak lookalike Rylan & XFactor stories by the fucking bucklet-load.

It should be banned as a source of anything credible.

I'm actually hoping the hacking grips it big time in the next few weeks & it falls along with the NoTW & any others that want to leap of the cliff..

Having given what has transpired over the past 10 days or so after
studying the accounts which were released for the 2011-2012 season and
the fact we are going to be out of the champions league for some time to
come, my suggestions, as far as rebuilding the team and bringing our
wages down to an acceptable level that allows the club to actually
generate revenue and profits and build for the future once we can spend
on expanding Anfield is:

a) Sell Reina, Agger, Skerts, Downing, Carroll. Potential savings of 25-35 million per season alone. Possibly more.

B) With carra about to retire, that's a massive 4 million in wages we are saving. Give or take a couple of million.

c) Sign a solid young goalkeeper for 1/3 the wages we are paying Pepe.

d) Promote Wisdom, Kelly to the first time full time and possibly keep Coates

e) From the transfer funds we get, bring in young, hungry defenders,
midfielders for less in wages but longer term contracts and more
earnings from incentives of match's played, goals scored, goals not
conceded, etc.

f) Increase (double) the number of scouts the club has on it's books
with a focus on Spain, Germany, Belgium and Holland in particular

g) Introduce a proper ticketing system which makes it significantly
easier for fans to get a hold of tickets and to fill bums on seats and
to fill up every single home match including league cup and FA Cup
match's

h) Allow supporters to buy tickets on match day's if there are any
available and improve the method of selling tickets to supporters clubs
globally

i) increase the corporate ticket costs and offset the cost to lower the cost of match tickets for kids under 13

j) Lobby to get our reserve team playing in the conference league
with the possibility of being promoted into division 4 and a maximum
level of Division 1 at the most. Our youth set up, nextgen aside do not
get sufficient real match experince and playing in the league will be
beneficial in the long term not only in weeding out the good from the
bad, but also potential from actual quality.

Anyways.

It's been reported numerous times that FSG's policy is to give the manager £20m plus revenue raised through player sales, in each transfer window. Additionally, it has been reported that despite this, FSG are/will be prepared to go above this policy if/when the opportunity arises to sign a player who is value for money (eg, a Suarez case, or this summer, Eriksen).

Additionally, we've discussed in here and on the main site how LFC can raise close to £40m from player sales this summer relatively easily and sensibly.

Which would give Rodgers £60m budget.

Plenty of places to discuss budgets and targets around here.
