The Kenny Dalglish Stand !! Wonderful idea. The best player we ever had, who starred in our greatest achievements, and is the first name in our best teams of that era. A man who lead us to the double, who lead us so well through the traumatic times of Hillsborough. A man who embodies the Shankly spirit, and only ever saw himself a servant of the club.

I don t think there is anything the club can do to begin to repay what King Kenny has done for this club. But naming the stand after him is a fitting gesture.

"Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play)."

I think Henry put it really well in a quote from the Guardian:
“It is testament to Liverpool’s history and status that we are not lacking in truly great individuals, whose names could easily grace a stand at Anfield,” the club’s principal owner, John W Henry, said. “But in Kenny Dalglish we have a person who carries such immense significance to the fabric of this club, so it feels somewhat incumbent on us to recognise this in a manner that is befitting to the man.

“He is unique, not just to Liverpool but to the game in England as a whole, having achieved greatness as a player and then enjoyed such success as a manager. His record and trophies won on both fronts speak for themselves.

“However, Kenny’s contribution to Liverpool goes beyond goals scored, points amassed and silverware placed in the cabinet. His values are Liverpool’s values – he represents what is best about this football club.

“The leadership and solace he gave to individuals, the club and city as it tried to come to terms with the trauma and tragedy of Hillsborough transcended sporting achievement."

“His name is synonymous with our club, with our home and the city of Liverpool. Now it will be as visible as it is palpable.”

Ed: shouldnt this have its own thread ?

Perhaps. I suppose that because of the statue and the gates, the opportunity for naming things after Shanks and Paisley has passed.

I don't doubt that it will go to a corporate sponsor. TBH I wouldn't mind "The Carlsberg Stand". At least it's a product and one most of us enjoy. Better that than something overly corporate like The PwC or The KPMG Stand.

Surely that would be naming for naming sakes? They have their small monument and just like Kenny is going to be totally embarrassed by the gesture, they would be also. Whilst I wasn't old enough to see Shanks or Paisley sides, what they built, the foundations they put in place.. The Liverpool way lives on in every fibre of every fan, every person associated with our great club.. That in itself is legacy enough, and it's what sets us apart from our rivals.

I think it's brilliant Kenny is honoured in his life time, why do we need to wait till someone passes to thank them for the service provided.

Hopefully this is the sign of things to come, an ownership more in tune with what this club stood and still stands for.

I do wonder if it's simply coincidence this happened after we got a new CEO, a life long Liverpool fan, even still the decision is one of the best of their tenure.

Kenny was a great player and great manager for this club, but then he led the club through it's darkest hour and held the hand of those who went through their darkest hour with compassion and warmth.

The guy deserves the stadium named after him, but the stand will do, great decision by the club owners.

Surely there is room for a Christian Poulsen Turning Circle in the car park?

I know for sure that there is a Paul Konchesky swimming pool being built. It's going to be constantly supervised to ensure that people are not out of their depth.

The most telling, and also most enjoyable excerpt from that article:

'Every Liverpool home game this season has sold out, ensuring an additional capacity of around 8,500. Liverpool’s average attendance has now risen beyond 53,000.'

If this isn't the clearest and most positive message the fans could possibly send to the owners, then I don't know what is.

Come on fsg, let's get this done, there will be no regrets! :-)

This Echo article also talks about plans for ARE as well as work which will take place this summer; increasing space for wheelchairs and filling in the corners of the Kop which would add 470 seats, but the wheelchair access improvements will mean the loss of 100 seats. There'll also be a new pitch laid, and the new club shop is due to be open by the start of next season.

Its plan for a new training facility, right? It may take 2-3 years to complete right?

By the way, I see that those diagrams showing how an Anfield with a capacity of 108,000 would look, have now been made into a video and the Echo is running it with the headline "How an Expanded Anfield Might Look" as if there is some possibility that this work of fantasy might happen. I think the Echo needs to have a word with itself. Not just that but it's embedded in an article that's entirely about the new pitch and which doesn't have a single word to say about this flight of fancy.

Articles like that are so tiresome; crazy ideas and rumours, page full of adds, additional little videos with stupid music in the background.

With talk about £200million being available on transfers and with TV money for the next 4 years giving maybe £100million net available + champions league money , £50million or so to develop this stand doesnt seem a lot.

Spuds are spending £800million on their stadium. Everton will have a 50,000 seater and are spending £300million.

Obviously the 108k seater stadium will never happen. However having made it over for the Boro game and seeing the new stand I thought it looked fantastic and like it has been there for years.

My only two complaints is that it makes the KOP look tiny and that the roof blocks views off the crowd not that I spend 90 minutes looking at the crowd but it is nice to see the atmosphere of the full stadium

Indeed, you're right! And the last time an architect had to draw up plans for a bigger trophy room, they were using cubits to measure in:-(;-)

can we install some kind of remote control to raise each square inch of the pitch or sink it in an inch or so? Or tilting system for the pitch? Put it in a control room somewhere and let some of us fans man it. Make it impossible for our opponent to counterattack us by making the pitch super uneven. lol
