Hoping for Shelvey's first cap, and on Germany v Ireland, dread doesn't begin to describe it. Toronto FC's Darren O'Dea up against Poldi, Gotze, Ozil etc..........gulp.

With a never ending injury list for tomorrow nights game with Germany for Ireland, the Irish management team seem to be rather suprisingly confident of getting a result against the Germans on Friday evening at Lansdowne Road.

I'd love for Ireland to get a good result tomorrow, but being realistic, we probably wont, here's hoping we do. It seems, with each game that comes around for the Republic of Ireland and Giovanni Trappatoni, it will define his and their campaign, once again.

Tomorrow's game was already perceived as daunting many weeks ago, now with so many injuries, and key players withdrawn, its seems to be mission impossible now. However, anythings possible, in football, and in life.

Yeah, losing Borini (broken bone in his leg apparently), means that we are only one injury to Suarez away of having to play Morgan and Yesil on a regular basis, also in the league...

And Wisdom as well?... Is it something serious, mate? :pale:

I believe it's some sort of shoulder injury with Wisdom. Much like Borini, the England camp have claimed it's a pre-existing injury, but I've never heard of him having such a problem.

I hate international breaks for many reasons

Losing key players to injury is the top reason - and it always seems to happen to us. I'm so glad Gerrard is out for our next game as putting our top players out for a game against San Marino is stupid.

I also hate them because International football games generally suck - the teams don't have enough time to bond and they end up boring. PL/league football is so much more exciting.

At least there's F1 on this weekend!

If you have a good team with good squad depth, internationals are less of a problem. Though if you have international players in your sides, its going to be an issue in the modern age regardless. nothing you can do

this is one of those things we cant change so we need to adapt by not being cheap in the next few transfer windows and paring our squad down to the marrow of the bare bones again like a gang of meffalurgists

Think Shelvey will get a go against the cannon fodder San Marinoites, so long as Roy doesnt do a Northampton, hes got a fair chance of notching his first England goal from the off

Ireland have got between Bob Hope and No Hope this evening. Anal sex on the level of what Spain did to them is the form horse, keep it to 2-0 or below wouldnt be a bad effort away from home I suspect

Has anyone seen the quotes from the San Marino manager? They're hilarious:

"The only thing certain is that we will lose," he said. "We will play a very defensive game and try and limit the chances for their strikers. The number of goals [we allow] will depend on our performance and the last few minutes of the game, when we tend to concede more."

He sounds like Roy Hodgson when he managed us...

This may sound bitter and twisted but I'd love San Marino to get at least a point.

I'd love to hear Hodgson's 'great team' post-match comments.

San Marino's manager worried that the method Roy uses may translate this time and they might have to attack. He is preempting Roy that he too will use the same method. If both translates, then it would be quite an interesting game for those insomniac.

In Russia, Capello off with a win against Portugal. Early goal and they stayed back, organised themselves and play on a counter. Portugal shooting blanks.

Nearly all our boys are in action, Sterling and Henderson starts for U21. Not a good one so far for Sterling, but Henderson looked quite compose and maturing into the midfield role. Our former player, Ince squandered 2 clear cut chances, one from Danny Rose and the other from Sterling through ball.

oh dear, what's going on with you? How can you hate a Latin American Classic in an international competition, which shows the best striking force in the world -Messi, Aguero and Higuain and our own exciting Suarez at the same time? Yeah go and watch F1 on TV, those who love football will be watching Argentina vs Uruguay, not doubt. I am sure BR will be taking loads of notes :D

I honestly can't imagine anyone would have seriously believed there was any chance of that. England can be 4-0 up as they are now and the performance doesn't have to be all that good

Ireland one suspects that Trappatoni might be beginning the phoning it in process. Expected a hammering but blimey...

I was being optamistic when I said we would only lose by less than 4 but jesus :/

Trap needs a sacking ASAP. If he had any decency he would step down but why would he do that when he would miss out on a massive paycheck for getting sacked?

    Bad times for the Irish.

Jonjo got his debut. Thankfully he didn't get a goal; 5-0 England and a draw between Switzerland and Norway. Now I can buy new shoes. ;-)

This Uruguay team is on the slide I reckon. Peaked at the last Copa. Suspect unless Suarez hits a hot streak that they might not qualify

Argentina were very good last night. Looks more like a proper team now; the balance is good, with Gago and Masch in midfield and probably the best front four in world football. Messi was just brilliant...as usual.

Germany also looking very solid. Winning 6-1 in Ireland; that's a very impressive result.

The Spanish train also keeps on rolling. Some lovely finishes from Pedro.
