  1. Reds agree Aspas deal in principle

    13th Jun 2013

Liverpool have tonight agreed a deal in principle with Celta Vigo for striker Iago Aspas, subject to documentation being completed.

Aspas scored 12 goals in 34 games in 2012-13 despite playing in a side threatened with relegation until the final day of the season.

During the campaign he was directly involved in 51 per cent of his team's goals.

The 25-year-old broke into the senior side at the Spanish outfit in 2009 after graduating from their youth set-up.

Aspas can play through the middle or out wide and he could become Brendan Rodgers's second signing of the summer transfer window following a deal for Kolo Toure.

Stay tuned to Liverpoolfc.com for more over the coming days.

I saw an interesting tweet from LFC referring to him as 'our potential new boy' which seems a little odd since they said the deal has been agreed... Guess it doesn't hurt to be cautious.

Anyway, welcome Iago, hope you score lots of goals for us!

    Welcome.

Be class or everyone will say you're shit, call for the managers head and demand FSG sell up.

    No pressure.

To be fair, he will have at least 3 games to demonstrate that...

    Woo hoo!

Really hope the Groove Armada "I see you baby" song takes off for Iago.

Someone on the forums dubbed him the Welsh Bellamy- props to whoever that was. Can only hope he's a Craig minus 10 years.

Edit Spanish Bellamy - sorry it's 6 am here!

Never heard of him, probably means our scouts are doing a good job though in a way.

Happy as we probably need a new striker for the start of the season, depending on Studge of course.

    Welcome.

Nonsense. For a guy who bagged 51% of his team goals and supposedly wanted the number 9 shirt to follow Torres footsteps, he should be hitting the ground running.

    Nevertheless welcome.

Now where's the youtubes and the quote of him being the next so-and-so.

I think this is a rubbish signing that shows our club's small-time mentality. Clearly a terrible player, he doesn't even have one Premier League or European goal. For a forward, that's rubbish. He hasn't performed. Brendan out.

Welcome Iago.Best of luck kid. And well done BR and the committee.Time will tell about Iago but the transfers are early and smooth so far.

And another good thing...the rumours seem to be coming true one by one,so bring on Mkhitaryan and Papa!

Yup, but there is something else here, I don't always have a good feeling when we sign a new player. I had big doubts when we signed Aquilani for instance, given his injury, and was speachless when we signed Carroll for 35m. I had a bad feeling when I heard that Downing was linked with the club, and shellshocked when reading that the club had shelled out 20m for him. I nevertheless supported the lads, but it turned out that I was right unfortunately.

On the other hand, I had a good feeling when Xabi came in, when we signed Masch, Agger, Reina, who are still a big part of this club, or play now in world-class teams.

Recently, I can only remember one occurence where my feeling let me down, and that was the loan move for Sahin. I was sure that he would make a big mark, but that wasn't the case, whatever the reasons. I also had a quite positive vibe when we signed Assaidi, so take this with a large pinch of salt, but still, the moves I had a positive vibe for (Coutinho for instance) generally prove to be successes. Hopefully this will be another one, fingers crossed!

Worse, he didn't even try to score one. Shame on him.

Rumour has it he is the Welsh Bellamy or something, so you are probably right.

If we could just sign the Scouse Carragher, we'd be set.

Go head lad, excited about this boy. Versatile, quick, looks like he's got some fire in him, hard working and with an eye for a goal. Hopefully he can adapt quickly and go on to have a similar effect as Kuyt had here, if not better.

Well one thing he has going for him is his transfer fee. Anything above 5 and below 15 would prove to be a success as it showed in previous transfer record lol

He certainly seems to have the fire in him to win...something that will be good to see, as long as he unleashes it on the pitch and not his opponent. :angry9:

He is an exciting signing and could prove to be a very essential part of our attack.

    For Aspas

Total shots Goals mins per goal mins per shot mins per shot on target shot accuracy shot conversion
    86 12 232.42 32.43 56.92 57% 14

    For Suarez
Total shots Goals mins per goal mins per shot mins per shot on target shot accuracy shot conversion
    143 23 128.48 20.66 41.04 50% 16

    * Aspas would have had the second highest shot accuracy in the EPL last season at 57% just behind Lukakua.
