Hard not to favor Liverpool in the semi's against Southampton, though it will be a harder draw than Hull. This isn't a league game where they get a point for playing a 0-0 game so they'll have to come out and try to play some football if they want to advance to the final, which will allow us more space to work some magic. I guess they can try to play 0-0 for 180mins and go to PK's, but i don't see that happening.

But is this an 'away goals count in the event of a draw' scenario? If so they could well park it (again) at home (oh their poor fans) and then have a go at Anfield.

It is a weird rule for the Cup. Away goals count as a tie-breaker only after playing extra-time, and in the semis there is extra time only for the second leg.

Which is farcical given that gives an obvious advantage to the team playing away for the 2nd leg. Shouldn't count if it goes to ET, in my opinion.

Sounds more like a shitty rule to me

I think saints were lucky to keep us out previously and can't see them hanging on in two games so give us a game you wimps.

Southampton played a pretty strong team against Arsenal though - Arsenal did about 10 changes I think.
Wenger quite clearly saw that this was a good time to exit the competition he didn't want to be in with the minimum of humiliation. Southampton don't score much so he was never likely to get too embarrassing a result.

Good luck that United has a midweek match as well. Would love to see Hull get a goal here. I expect it'll be United in the final anyway. I hope they have to work for it.

The media called this a "decisive" win for United as they beat Hull at their own turf. This is going to be another Mourinho, Pogba and Ibrahimovic wankfest. But the guy that had been instrumental for United in supplying those assists and goals had been Mata.

If they get to the finals, I sure hope they get knocked the fuck out by us or Soton. Can't imagine what the media would publish if they were to win the League Cup.

Man United hold out for a 1 - 2 draw with Hull to go through -- apparently

I'd hope Soton now win it. Romeu has been extremely high-quality for them in the #6 role of late aka totally bossing us (and many other teams too). Many other HQ players too aka Tadic, Redmond, Davis and others. A good, sane and underpinned way of playing the 4-3-3 (point backwards) form Puel by them. All players doing a good job (bar maybe the right-most shuttler role , but they have 3 possibles here aka Clasie, Hojbjerg and JWP)

They should have every chance of upsetting Mourinho a month from now. Pogba has superb skills, but below average positioning, Carrick can playmake superbly but does not like to be pressed ...Soton must have a good chance here.

They will have 15 days to prepare the final, while United will play 2 games during that time. Puel's done a good job so far this season, mixing well some possession based stuff and also deploying good counter attack when needed. We haven't scored in 3 games against them so far this season and it's not like we created many chances. I thought we'd have enough with their CB's pairing (practically their 3rd and 5th option on paper this season), but there you go.

Our best performance against Southampton was the first one, we were generally unlucky that day.

They deserved to beat us in the cup.

Gabbiadini onside, ruled OFFside. Saints robbed a perfectly good goal. I somehow don't see Mourinho complaining about it in the post-match...

Yet another incorrect offside decision benefiting United. What a shock!

Still find it odd that a video replay can't be used in a situation like that. Especially in such a high stakes game.

Commentators creaming themselves over Ibrahimovic, Mourinho and anything remotely linked to Manchester United. Bleeding hell. You'd think it was the final seconds of a winning Champions League final after a league and Cup winning season listening to this lot.

I could watch this game on TV.
But I don't want to see those PoS if I don't have to.
I might turn it on if southampton turn it around and lead after 85 minutes.

Always happens when Martin Tyler's commentating on a United game. It's always so blatant which side he's backing.
