Mario Balotelli completes Nice medical but Liverpool remain in negotiations

Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli has undergone a medical at Nice - but negotiations between the two clubs are continuing ahead of tonight’s deadline.

The Italy international has accepted the opportunity to kick-start his career with the Ligue One outfit. However, Nice were keen to sign him on a season-long loan with Liverpool determined to make it a permanent transfer.

It can now be slammed shut harder than the hardest transfer window has ever been slammed shut!

Mario Balotelli has completed his move from #LFC to Nice on a free transfer. Permanent deal, not a loan.

You know it didn't go well when the deadline day negotiations are between a free transfer and a loan until the contract expires.

But we don't have to pay him off. I suspect it all amounts to the same sum at the end of the day but at least this way there is total finality.

Anyway - good luck to him at Nice. I hope he does well there and gets his career back on track.

Don't think it was a free transfer as you need to eliminate the contract first in that case.

Probably off the wage book + substantial % of reselling fees as mentioned in earlier leaks.

Good luck Balotelli and hope you can command big fees in a year to 2.

Reports were that Nice were trying to get him on a loan, presumably with LFC covering some percentage of wage. It would appear that did not happen, and as you say we don't pay him off. Nice presumably made some sort of arrangements with him, not sure how long his deal is there.

Shows how appalling this guy has been, that we'd be greatly relieved to ditch him on a free, after shelling out 16m two years ago.

    Worst ever signing?

I thought he was on his last year anyway? Either way, good luck to the maverick man-child, gutted your time with us was more Grimm than fairytale. I had such naive hopes!

    Done deal: Balotelli Nice-bound

Two seasons, £16m pounds and just one Premier League goal later, Mario Balotelli has finally completed a move to Ligue 1 side OGC Nice on a free transfer.

Signed in the 2014/15 season during Brendan Rodgers reign at the Reds, the Italian - who was considered a huge gamble from day one - will undoubtedly go down in Liverpool folklore as one of the worst signings in the club's history.

That said, at least the Anfield faithful have something to celebrate on the transfer deadline day.

    It's official

    http://www.ogcnice.com/fr/actualite/27592/super-mario-balotelli-a-nice

    Benvenuto a casa, Mario !

What a nightmare. I'm trying to think of a bigger all time flop at LFC. Aquillani comes to mind, Balotelli is probably the biggest. Never buy Italians I guess.

Dan Kennett, and Dave Hendricks were discussing Nice's recent finances questioning the comments about us not paying anything to make the move happen as Nice's highest salary was apparently 40k paid to Ben Arfa last season and two years ago their wage bill was 25m euros

Mario Balotelli officially leaves Liverpool to join Nice on a permanent free transfer

"We are very pleased to welcome Mario," Nice president Jean-Pierre Rivère told the club's official website after confirmation of the deal.

"We hope that at Nice, in a family atmosphere, he will find enjoyment in the game.

"We know him and us, that nothing will be easy but with the desire and, hopefully, the support of all our fans, we will allow him to flourish and bring his talent to the service of the 'team'."

A statement from the Anfield club read, " Everybody at Liverpool FC wishes Mario the best of luck in his future career."

I assume Klopp's big clear out is finishing today.

In Dortmund 17 players leaved after his first season.

How many LFC players are leaving this summer?

Best of luck muzza, hopefully, for yourself, you get sone kind of semblance of a career back on track.

I'm not pissed off as much as most, an extremely long shot in the first place, any slightest of slight chances he had of actually making something happen was snuffed out by pathetic infighting and point scoring at this club.

So we have kissed goodbye to, give or take, £25m in the two years he has been with us. Possibly more if we had to give him a pay-off before he left (loyalty bonus anyone?) Well done to the twonk who signed that one off. Sure Milan are still pissing themselves laughing at us for the way they screwed us over so spectacularly.
It's not even as though most of us are being wise after the event either. Like most others I hoped that it would work out and he would finally get his shit together and produce the goods. However, there was always the nagging doubt that it'd go the same way as before. Quelle surprise. Nice will be the 5th club he will have played for this decade. Tells you all you need to know. He's just a poor man's version of Nicolas Anelka.

It's right there in the top three with Carroll and Diouf as our worst ever signings. Aquilani is a very distant 4th on the roll of dishonour. Only reason we will need to remember him will be to serve as a warning to never gamble large sums on such a flaky character again. Leave it to someone else to let their ego overrule their common sense.
    Good bloody riddance.

Uhmmm, then he will probably continue to clear out next winter and summer.

Big changes of the squad, not every fan will like that. Some of their favorit players and darlings will leave.
