We are and it's not always working, is it? That's what I mean - we need a different combination if we're going to be successful against certain set ups.

Possibly he's earmarked as Coutinho's replacement then, for when he'll be sold by the club, this summer or next?

All the German lads seem to say there are still elements of his game where he needs to improve, like Brandt as well for that matter, but in the market we're shopping in (predominantly young, high potential players) he's among the better ones out there at the moment. Wouldn't be world-class from day one, but every reason to hope he'd get there in time.

I can feel myself getting carried away on these two threads - sadly in this one I still do think it sounds like it's unlikely at best.

If we buy another CM/DM type as well, it then gives the option of bringing Hendo forward again. I think having both (Keita & a more specialised DM) would open up a lot of intriguing possible midfield combinations.

Why would you want your team to get relegated.

"RB Leipzig's coach Ralph Hasenhuettl said they are investigating why Guinea midfielder Naby Keita collapsed in the dressing room area following a Bundesliga game on Saturday."

In two minds about this one. Not sure he's exactly what we need or its all that likely to happen. However it's the kind of deal Alonso was. "Smaller" team in a top league doing very well and we want to pinch their top player whilst hoping he sees the value of coming to us to play regularly instead of to one of the big boys to become part of the crowd. Kind of signing we need to start making again to take us on a level however due to their ownership issue may just be the wrong club.

I like Hendo in his current role but we need strong backup for him because it seems that his foot problem is recurring and will be a lock to miss considerable time every year.

Keita while a long shot would be a nice addition.

If I had to take a bet: He'll join Bayern, this summer or next. Would be the classic Bayern move, for a number of reasons.
I would be absolutely fine with being proven wrong though.;-)

Unless there has been further news, Hendo's current injury isnt a recurrance of his heel injury (and that wasnt a recurrance of his previous one either as it was a different foot).

I think Henderson's problems lately was maybe part of the reason to put him a bit deeper on the pitch, see if he can learn a new role which was also a problem for us, and he did. He probably reached and already showed his maximum as box-to-box, I don't think there was a lot more room for improvement there. Now we have another pressure trigger + some technical aspects we missed in central midfield from Lallana, while Henderson acts as the more dynamic and slightly more active #6. 3 positions, we're talking about the need for 5-6 players. Depends if Klopp plans to use (and how much) Coutinho sometimes in that central role. For now as things stand, I think we're keeping this structure and at least 2 of it's starters for the majority of games next season. That's all counting on Can staying and remaining as backup/rotation for #6 and #8 (maybe less so, if we're getting that player in to compete with Wijnaldum or possibly replace him in the XI and backup for Lallana).

Do you think there are any legs to the rumour Pep wants Kimmich at City?So that's why they are in for Keita?

Heard that too, but I find it heard to get into Pep's mind space tbh...;-)
Kimmich was kind of Guardiola's favourite "project" at Bayern, he played him pretty much everywhere on the pitch as well, always talked about him and with him...So I could definitely see that he might want to get him to City, don't know if Bayern would let him go... Ancelotti does not seem to rate him as much though...
Add to that Alonso's age (his contract runs out as well and he would leave a gap for sure, although Keita is a different type of player he could do a job there) - and most importantly the old-as-time Bayern strategy of just buying out the one or two best/most important players of whoever are their main competitors at any given moment - and also quite simply that Keita is a very good player, who could potentially fill different roles in a Bayern system.

I dont know, he is still their second most commonly used RB this season, and Lam will not be there next season. I know the implication of the Kimmich talk is as it relates to competition for places in Bayern's midfield, but I think he is the more likely RB regardless of whether he stays at Bayern or goes to Citeh. Ergo, I dont think his status plays into whether Bayern will go for Keita. They might, but I suspect their targets might be a bit more experienced than this given who they are losing.

They are getting Rudy though...And I wasn't trying to say Keita would be the main successor to Alonso, they have other players for that, but they would need cover there - perfect target, just like Sanches was. And again, it's also always just as much about hurting their perceived BL rivals, they can afford to just hoard these talented players.

Yup, German media are saying RB Leipzig want him for the next season in CL and are determined not to suffer from the usual Bayern strategy of stealing their best players.

No clue. All it shows is that RB aren't a "normal" club in the BL.. ;-)

Echo Rumour mill says that reports in Germany suggesting likely fee to get deal done is £26m, and that we would need to be in CL.

I love the captions on these things.

Keita. Help me with navigator...has scored a few seconds into the 80s...the hair and the jumper...etc.

Also £26m is pretty reasonable in today's market.

Their manager felt compelled to deny stories of us and his players. Oddly, that makes me think there is more to it than just stories. I cannot imagine he would respond to newspaper stories in another country

If he says that, we can forget about him coming over then. Klopp hated the fact that players using that as their nego line....

If we're in the CL it shouldn't even come up. It was only a factor with Gotze because we knew he would be available due to his situation at Bayern and so approached him early, and he kept putting us off to see if we'd win the EL, at which point Klopp told him to stick it.

Tbf - in the Sky interview he was asked about Werner's agent's comments, who had publicly talked about how well Werner would fit into Liverpool's playing style in a German newspaper ("Bild").
Apart from that I have a slightly different reading of his comments. The fact that he went as far as saying "To be honest, I don't think a single one of our players will play for Liverpool next season" - I find that an unusually strong statement. So it's probably not about denying there's interest for a number of RB players.
Maybe he's just trying to raise prices or calm his squad down, possible - but I find it unusual how he's been touring German media in general for the last week or so, saying "they're not going anywhere next season" in such a resolute way - maybe he just isn't talking bull after all.

EDIT: He also added that he's "very, very sure" that Keita will play for them next season

How many CL spots does the BL have this season?

Just noticed that Leipzig are on a poor run at the moment, and Dortmund and Hoffenheim are both closing on them fast.

Wondering if their early-season bubble has burst a bit now, and if they do miss out on CL it would make it easier to sign the likes of Keita.

Ah, that's a shame. Unlikely they'll drop any further than fourth at this stage.

Must be other suitable players we would benefit from in the other teams not getting CL in Germany?

Aye, It would need a big collapse from here for them to miss out. With all due respect to Hertha and Cologne, if it were bigger sides chasing them, like the situation Dortmund were in last year, the pressure might be greater, but as it as I just dont see it happening.
