Just heard about the tragedy of the Brazilian football team, whose plane crashed in Central Colombia. A generaton of gifted footballers lost.
No words can bring comfort to the family, friends and Chapecoense fans. All football fans around the world share your grief.

    RIP.

Shocking tragedy, thoughts go out to their families.

Have been reading about the club today after this, smallish club that had only just got back into the top flight in Brazil for the first time since 1979 and were punching above their weight by all accounts, now having to deal with this. Hard to wrap your head around.

Apparently the son of the coach missed the flight, because he forgot his passport.

    Terrible tragedy. RIP.

Only 2 now sadly, it's absolutely horrific. Whole club destroyed really, can't think how those who survived must feel and those who were "lucky" such as the striker who was injured so he didn't travel.

Thoughts are with them, could have been any team this.

Absolutely horrifying news. My heart goes out to everyone involved. The pic of the 3 players who didn't make the trip sitting in the changing room is completely gut wrenching. What must be going through their minds?!

It seems Atletico Nacional have submitted a request to the Brazilian FA to award the title to Chapecoense and all the teams in the Brazilian serie A have offered to loan the club players for free next season and have petitioned for them to be exempt from relegation for the next 3 years. PSG are also donating 40 million Euros to them. Its heartwarming to see the football world coming together and rallying around the club, but its tough to imagine how any club could recover from a tragedy of this magnitude.

I don't even feel like watching the football tonight, I just feel so sad for the families.

I criticise these money teams but that deserves a hell of a lot of praise.

The PSG story is false. As is the Ronaldo one. As are a few others. It's weird how disrespectful certain news outlets, twitter accounts etc can be in order to get a few hits or RTs on the back of such a tragedy.

If this is the case then , ...:unhappy:.... disrespectful is too nice a word for them... and rather than waste words on those sources i will focus on those affected by this tragedy, as Lucas said "may their families get all the support they need"

I was shocked to hear of the tragedy this morning but I can imagine the agony our Brasilian players are feeling right now and I hope there is collection started by the club to help the families in some way...

Very nice gestures. Sad that tragedies are what is sometimes needed to move past the tribalism of sports and society to return to the more human side of life.

Heartfelt armbands in the Prem today for these too-early-departed souls. Very sad to learn that the plane was run out of fuel by a bad pilot decision. RIP.

Is that confirmed? The initial reports ran the fuel shortage which then turned into an electrical fault. If so then it just makes it so much worse as it would have been completely avoidable.
