They looked decent to me in first parts of the season, thought they would have just about enough with organization and ability to mix between possession & counter attack to survive. Proves that even something like that sometimes isn't enough in this league these days. Still not relegated of course, but it doesn't look good. Lacked in end product, first up front... and then it's not struggling to win games anymore, but start losing them as well. Also, maybe mentally the side didn't get enough confidence and belief from that approach.

I have the odd friend who is a Boro fan and the football had got so dire that they wanted him gone.

When a Boro fan thinks their football is dire, you know it's bad...

By all rights Watford should be down and out the way they're being run, they're doing fairly well almost in spite of themselves. I'd say they desperately need to find some stability soon before it's too late, though.

Watford are a strange club. Always punching well above their weight but never appeasing those who run the club.

Watford are basically a mid-table Serie A side, structure and all, that happens to play in the PL and be located outside London. The managers are replacement parts, the ones that are stable are stable at the sporting director level.

Not just the managers, with all their loans it seems they have almost a revolving squad. Aside from a handful of key players it's hard to really know what they'll look or play like next season...

I think Moyes may now have really screwed up his career. The ManU failure was not a disaster, because the challenge was understood. His time at Real Sociedad was seen as an interesting diversion, one which not many British managers would try, so the fact that he wasn't great did not really hurt him. But his Sunderland team should have been better, it is not as if he had no time or money to make changes last summer. Moyes signed 5 players who he had at Everton, and two from ManU. Sunderland never really did anything well, you would not expect a Moyes team to be a great attacking side, however they never really became a solid defensive team either. Just a mediocre side with a manager who now looks mediocre.

It sounds like he wanted some financial assurances that didn't square with Sunderland's sense of what has to happen post-relegation. That mindset might make it very hard for him to find a position in the Championship, but it is hard to figure where he might land in the PL. He probably just blew his probationary membership in the Allardyce-Pardew club for managers you hire to try to avoid relegation. I am not sure who would hire him next. Somewhere in Scotland maybe?

There's a Harry Enfield sketch from back in the day where he and Paul Whitehouse are the DJs where, upon getting wind of the fact they're about to get canned, go belting along the corridors until they happen upon journalists, and breathlessly cry "we resign" before the boss can get there to announce otherwise.

For reasons I can barely fathom, this sketch came back to me just now upon learning of Moyes' resignation.

Hard to feel any sympathy for Moyes. Sunderland have been largely abysmal this season and he has not offered anything positive since he took over.

Allardyce and Pulis are far more conservative than Moyes when it comes to playing style. These two also relies heavily on powerful forward, something I don't seem to recall in Moyes side other than Ferguson back in the days. All three also relied heavily on quick wide players who could put a sweet cross in. It won't be long to see Allardyce and Pulis looking for a new job come next season, and one of these two clubs will go for Moyes for sure.

There should be an alert to all football fans whose club have no manager that Moyes is on the loose ready to demoralise another clubs fanbase, maybe have lookouts to stop him being offered the chance to showcase his brilliance at looking, talking and managing like he's lost the will to live.

also the owners are a joke.

Wish I could become a multimillionaire like Moyes for getting repeatedly sacked. Guy needs to never work again, dunno why he would bother.

I have noticed that a lot more managers seem to sack it off far earlier than they used to.

There are unconfirmed reports that Sam Allerdyce is leaving Crystal Palace. Not sure if if it is of his own accord.

Just came on to post the same, Maria, seen quite a few posts on Twitter, looks like it could be true.

    Palace down next year, then.
