Supporters can vote on the UEFA website for who they want to see in the final team.

:-( UEFA have nominated 40 players fans can choose for "their" 2016 team of the year.

GOALKEEPERS: Rui Patricio (Sporting), Keylor Navas (Real Madrid), Jan Oblak (Atletico Madrid), Gigi Buffon (Juventus).

DEFENDERS: Gerard Pique (Barcelona), Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich), Toby Alderweireld (Tottenham), Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid), Raphael Guerreiro (Borussia Dortmund), Leonardo Bonucci (Juventus), Laurent Koscielny (Arsenal), Diego Godin (Atletico Madrid), Pepe (Real Madrid), Juanfran (Atletico Madrid), Dani Carvajal (Real Madrid), Jerome Boateng (Bayern Munich).

MIDFIELDERS: Dimitri Payet (West Ham), Yannick Carrasco (Atletico Madrid), Paul Pogba (Manchester United), Riyad Mahrez (Leicester), Kevin De Bruyne (Man City), Joe Allen (Stoke), Luka Modric (Real Madrid), Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal), Toni Kroos (Real Madrid), Andres Iniesta (Barcelona), N’Golo Kante (Chelsea), Grzegorz Krychowiak (PSG).

FORWARDS: Lionel Messi (Barcelona), Luis Suarez (Barcelona), Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid), Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Man United), Gonzalo Higuain (Juventus), Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Borussia Dortmund), Neymar (Barcelona), Gareth Bale (Real Madrid), Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal), Sergio Aguero (Man City).

Joe Allen is the only player associated with the Reds to be included on the list, primarily for his efforts in helping Wales reach the semi-finals of Euro 2016 while a Liverpool player.

But despite Jurgen Klopp’s side reaching the final of the Europa League, there are no other Reds chosen by UEFA.

To be fair, competition winners Sevilla also don’t have a current player in the shortlist, with Grzegorz Krychowiak, now of Paris Saint-German, the only inclusion.

UEFA guys are funny. :-( No current Liverpool and Sevilla players are nominated but Zlatan Ibrahimovic from Manchester United.

Check out how many goals he scored last season, of course he should be nominated.

For the lazy amongst you: 38 in 31 league games, 50 in 51 all comps with 19 assists (source:transfermrkt)

Yes but the season was only one half of 2016. Until May. The rest of the year (7 months) he wasn't great.

By the way, Neuer, Özil, Müller are not nominated as well.

Well, based on last season, we hardly set the world on fire.

Joe Allen made the list... tells you all you need to know about the credibility of the list as a whole.
