No. Roma gave us permission to talk to Salah.
Is this the end of our VvD hopes?
Chelsea failed to land him last year with a £53m bid so we offer them £36m???
1. Get permission from club to talk to player
2. Agree terms with player
3. Agree terms with club
4. Melwood lean
That's the process in a nutshell. I believe we have followed those steps this time.
If we are in fact interested in Koulibaly, you would have to say we have moved on from VVD. I think we gave him his chance to push for a move but that hasn't really happened so now we are looking elsewhere. Of course the above could very well be(and more likely is) noise created by Napoli to increase Chelsea's bid but we'll have to wait and see.
I was hoping that VvD will wait until a few days before Southamptons preseason starts - thats how wantaway players do it often - publicly or internally expressing his wish to leave so the club has to react after such 'shock'
It could also be an attempt by us to encourage southampton to deal with us by making it look like we are chasing someone else
That is my reading of it, the window isn't open yet, also I wouldn't imagine VVDis not going to slap in a transfer request this early in the proceedings, sure his agent wouldn't be best pleased. He would see more money in this somewhere.
The rumoured move for Koulibaly might have legs from the point of a fallback position, but would almost certainly be an attempt to light a fire down Soton way.
This might be popcorn time!
Or it could just be madey uppey bollocks by what passes for the media these days...
(Mind you, would love us to go after him, think he's just as good as Van Dijk.)
So did Southampton. The issue was releasing information with media that we should not have done prior to making a formal bid.
Could be just an opning bid to show player we are serious in our interest and get Napoli to set their price.
A bit much these Italian clubs.
Liverpool : 'we have this player, great stats, a little out of place here but perfect for Serie A.'
Random Italian club: 'Awesome, we'll take him thanks. Loan with option to buy in two years.'
Liverpool: 'Well we really would like to sell actually'
Random Italian Club: 'Hmmm, loan with a fee of 2 mil (Euros naturally) and option to buy in a year'
Liverpool : ' Ok, done. And while we're at it since we have such a good relationship we'd like to buy a player. He looks ok but still some questions so... €25 mil should do it eh? Then we just pop around Rome and take in the sights. Plus dinner is on us'
Random Italian club: £60 mil. Plus your player. Forget the loan.
Liverpool : Whaa... but...
Random Italian Club: Price has gone up. We just heard Man City want him. £70 mil. Plus that player and the trip and dinner.
Liverpool : Um... wait let me just get John on the line...
(pointed silence on the line with John)
Liverpool : Ok, £25 mil plus add ons and player
Random Italian Club: No
Liverpool : Whaaa ... but...
Random Italian Club: so about that player... €500k for a two year loan. No option to buy.
Sky Italia : Breaking news, Sakho agrees move to (insert Random Italian Club here)...
"Liverpool expected to renew VvD interest"
Sounds like the icing on our Salah cake today!!!
Regarding the alleged bid for Koulibaly, it is being presented as more dumb shit from us given that it's significantly less (like an entire moderately good young player) than they turned down for him from Chelsea last year. I'm not sure Chelsea ever got as far as actually bidding for him last year, and certainly not 50+ million
Can't believe people have forgotten how Palace tried to structure the Benteke deal last year and don't think other clubs do it too.
So, £70m for van Dijk. Seems a bit much but then it includes at least a£10m premium for somebody being a fuckwit.
If we pay that that's some statement. One that says many different things to many different people!
I'd love to get the guy signed up but we shouldn't pay 70mp for him.
In my opinion, if Klopp sees him as a perfect fit and wants him, It doesn't matter if we pay 40 or 70 million.
Am I being blind and missing the reports on this bid? Last thing I've heard on Van Dijk is Chelsea stepping up their interest in him.
Are there any new reports tonight about VvD or why are you talking about the £70m price tag?
Stupid fucking money, but not sure how much complaining i would do when seeing the lean.
Twitter tells me Chelsea are in for him.
It's an insane fee but we'll make that from selling all the deadwood.
Perfectly reasonable for us to go back in for him then isn't it
Absolutely. Interesting to see if he is still preferring us after potentially being chatted up by Chelsea though.
I can't see why we would go back in for this lad, after making our big statement, of we're out. Our owners, would not want to lose face, twice in one window. He may not be at Southampton come the window close, but it is highly unlikely, he'll be here. .
And as for Aldo, now tapping him up, FFS, stay away from the microphone.
Not sure FSG would save face by allowing the chavs to nick him and not competing.
VvD also wouldn't save face if he joins another club than Liverpool.
Southampton fans also wouldn't save face if they cheer for him again.
When I took a self imposed break a few weeks ago i think the VVD thread was on about 50 pages. Considering that we've "ended any interest in the player" i'd say we're still getting good mileage on here
weren't Chelsea also in danger of being reported for an illegal approach if they didn't bug off?.. or was that City?
it's all getting too confusing now
I don't think JWH gives a rat's ass about 'face'. If the value proposition is there, he will go for it.
