With no league footy and all this annoying and meaningless international footy I thought this would be a bit of fun. This is NOT a best-ever team, we have done that to death haven't we? This is about your own favourite-ever team based on the players you've watched over the years..I think to make it more fun NO current players should be eligible.

My favourite-ever LFC team would be:

..............................Grobbelaar......................
Rob Jones.....Hansen(C) .....Agger.....A. Kennedy
..........Alonso........Gerrard......... Barnes
.........Dalglish............................Beardsley........
....................................Torres.......................

Managed by the great Sir Bob Paisley.

My favourite-ever world XI would be:

..........................Chilavert.......................
..Nesta........Baresi........Maldini.....Junior
...... Socrates........Zico............Platini
....Cryuff.............Laudrup.........Litmanen

Managed by Rinus Michels.

What an entertaining game that would be.Total football on steroids, the ultimate game.

................................McMahon.......................
..............Souness (C).................Alonso

..........................Rush.................Fowler

Managed by Sir King Kenny

vs World XI

.................................Schwarzer
Cafu..........Maldini.........Beckenbauer.....R. Carlos
.............................Zico.........Pirlo.....................
Garrincha.......................................................Ronaldinho
...................................Maradona
.....................................Ronaldo (the real one)...........

Managed by Me (lets face it, anyone managing that team who can't win is f...ing shite)

And thinking back on this team, so many fantastic players that I have left out

World 11

I'm not one for studying other teams/players and God knows, I know nothing of tactics or formations. My choices are all players that I've found entertaining or who's skill I have marvelled at in the past.

Grobbelaar
Jones - Hansen - Hyypia - Nicol
Gerrard - McMahon - Redknapp - Barnes
Fowler - Beardsley

Henry - Ronaldinho - Messi
Seedorff - Gascoigne
Matthaus
R Carlos - Baresi - Nesta - Cafu
Southall
Subbed out Alves, Romario and Redondo for Cafu, Messi and Gazza. Still tempted to include Mark Wright instead of Sami but I liked him mostly for his England performances because he joined us really with his best years behind him (at least that's how it turned out for the most part).

@Kopstar Redknapp????
Yeah. We played similar positions, he played for my favourite team, was good looking with a brilliant right foot and a pop star wife. Basically, I wanted to be just like him. He also scored a goal in Europe, I think, which was sensational and was much like one Seedorff had scored only recently before. I really thought of Redknapp as 'our' Seedorff and I reckon he would have been were it not for injuries.

After Gascoigne and Fowler, Seedorff was probably my favourite player when I was in my late teens/early twenties.

Some great line ups coming up here. Also an opportunity to reminisce about the greats from the past. There are so many to choose from once you start thinking about it. I still haven't got round to completing my top 50 Liverpool players for another thread on here.

Liverpool 11?
Gobbelaar
Neal Hansen Lawrenson Kennedy
Alonso Souness
Gerrard
Dalglish Rush Suarez
Manager - Paisley.

World 11
Zoff
Thuram Baresi Desailly R.Carlos
Dunga
Zidane Zico
Messi Ronaldo Ronaldinho
Manager - Beckenbauer

I am going with who I have seen. I have a lot of problems selecting our front line and the world's midfield and front line too. Back, I am very comfortable with those names as they are the best at their generation. Contemplated between Fowler and Rush, but I went for Rush. Paisley vs Beckenbauer, with that sort of line up. Forget about it.... we'll have a lot of defending to do.

Off the top of my head and I apologise in advance for certainly failing to remember some other greats of the game that I perceived as awesome players but also decent personalities (some on the pitch, some off it, some both) and who got me thinking how I would have loved to have had them in my club, even for only a season.

Buffon

Cafu Nesta Maldini Lahm

Javier Zanetti

Zidane Kaka

Totti

Del Piero Ronaldo

As for Liverpool's favourite XI, not the best... I will exclude members of the current XI on purpose even though they run my picks pretty close. This would have got a whole lot harder had some of Liverpool's star players of past twenty years didn't leave on acrimonious terms.

Reina

Finnan Carra Hyypia Riise

Lucas Alonso

Kuyt Gerrard Berger

Fowler

Hahaha. @Nikola wants to see us thrashed against that World Xi. Zidane, Kaka, Totti, Del Piero and Ronaldo will have a field day running rings around Riise, Carragher and Lucas.

Have I missed something or didn’t the opening post stipulate that this thread is for your favourite players, not necessarily the best, and that all current players were ineligible?

I can't believe that I missed Banks from my World 11.

Now that I come to think of it, I should have had George Best in there too. My two favourite non LFC players.

One of my favourite LFC players of the 80's was Paul Walsh. Just couldn't fit him in. Also Fowler, Heggem and Stevie Nicol.

Yes Kopstar, no current players or none of the others will get a look-in!

Quite right guys, it did say fave players. I’d make a couple of changes then just because I loved watching some players play for us even if they won’t godown as the very best in their position. Just something about their style I really liked. It is hard though...how can you leave out Joey Jones?
So...
Clem, Babbel, Cohen, Hysen, Hansen
Berger, Stevie, Molby, McManaman
Keegan & Jari Litmanen
