Hahaha the history thread. Actually a good idea.

The French did have an extremely nice win ratio (thanks to Napoleon mostly) leading up to World War II, but after that it's been downhill.

French resistance did a great job during the big one.

The French suck.

Unless they're ours. Then they're awesome.

As I said good signing if the wages are reasonable fills in a gap between the likes of Kelly and Wisdom developing
They said if he wants to come to Liverpool he will have to accept his wages being cut by 2/3's.

So a player who is on 120K p/w at City, will be picking up 40K p/w from us.

Sound bit of buisness that.

Kolo Toure is a massive step-down from Carra

I really don't see the point of this signing and I can't imagine it'll be as cheap as everyone has been saying.

He was good for Arsernal. Erm what more is there to say.

Unless he's part of a clever plot to lure his brother here.

Who would be better or as good as Carra then, considering that this is a signing as a backup.

First choice CBs: Agger & Papa
Backup CBs: Toure & Kelly (?) & Wisdom (?)

Sadly the same could have been said in regards to Carra if you gauged the opinions of some of our supporters at the start of the season.

Not sure whether the defence looks a bit thin there with Skrtel and Coates out.. Wouldn't mind Alderweireld or Ilori as an option as well, especially considering Agger's injury record. Toure is ok for a handful of games in my book, no more. Think Wisdom's still too young to play as our CB and whilst Kelly is an option at this point, he's coming back from a long term injury and might be better continuing to compete with Johnson as a full back for another season whilst he gets back up to speed.

Reds agree Toure deal

28th May 2013 - Latest News

Liverpool Football Club can today announce they have agreed a deal in principal with Kolo Toure to join the club on July 1.

The powerful defender will be registered as a Reds player when his current deal with Manchester City expires.

Toure, 32, will arrive at Anfield boasting a wealth of experience having represented both City and Arsenal in the Barclays Premier League since switching to English football in 2002 and add depth to Brendan Rodgers' defensive ranks ahead of 2013-14.

The Ivory Coast international, signed by Arsene Wenger from homeland club ASEC Mimosas, made his Gunners debut in the 2002 Community Shield against Liverpool at the Millennium Stadium.

Originally deployed in midfield or at full-back, Toure was moved to centre-back for the 2003-04 season and helped Arsenal go the entire league season unbeaten as they swept to the title, adding to the FA Cup they'd lifted the previous season.

He added a second FA Cup medal in 2005, while a year later he was part of the Arsenal side that reached the Champions League final against Barcelona having scored the only goal of the two-legged semi-final with Villarreal.

After more than 200 appearances for the Londoners, Toure was firmly established as one of the finest centre-backs in the league - and Manchester City duly swooped to sign him in the summer of 2009 and immediately appointed him club captain.

During his four years at Eastlands, he lifted another Premier League title and FA Cup in over 100 appearances for City.

On the international stage, Toure has represented the Ivory Coast at two African Cup of Nations tournaments and two World Cup finals. He has more than a century of caps for his country, for whom he has also worn the skipper's armband.

He'll become the first Ivorian to play for Liverpool when he joins the club.

Well at least with this fella we now can understand what's he on about in an interview.... ;-)

2 year deal. Sounds good to me. Quite error prone of late and that's probably because of lacking in game time. He will be a stiff competition for Skrtel if the Slovak stayed on. He has a bit more pace than Carragher and he pack a pretty decent shot at his younger days.

I am quite please with this one.
