Anyone else watched the season review blu-ray and noticed something missing?

It is an awful disease my wife works with MND and it is quite sobering when you start moaning about one thing or another, the worst thing is it is incurable at the moment and seeing a fit young man like Darby standing next to Rimmer which is the next stage of the disease it must heartbreaking. All we can do is support them morally and financially and make people aware of this horrible disease.

Don't understand why ALS is called MND over there. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis is the actual name for it. My mother has had a rare form of it since the 90's which progresses very slowly (thankfully).

we have actively been involved in fundraising for over 20 years with the ALS Society of BC which supports the patients

Different names for much the same thing is confusing. Motor neurone disease (MND) is a progressive disorder of tow parts of the motor (movement) control of the body. One part is the upper motor neurone (UMn) which takes the messages for movement form the brain down to the lower motor neurone (LMn) which is the nerve cell which takes the message from the spinal cord to the muscle. The A in ALs is for amyotrophic which is a fancy name for the wasting (thinning or loss of bulk) of muscle and is cause by loss of the LMn. The LS of ALS is for lateral sclerosis, which is the change in the UMn in MND which causes weakness and spasticity. In the USA, ALS is more frequently used while we use MND - it is the same disease.

So both are 100% correct

Glad that at least the disease is only slowly progressing with your mam.

We were fortunate that a fella by the name of Dr Andrew Eisen was working with the ALS Society at the time and took a particular interest in her case. He met with her monthly for 10 years monitoring and testing. Experimental drug testing, placebos, can't remember it all anymore. He laid a lot of groundwork for the current doctors working on treatments for the disease.

My mom has her own theories on the disease, she believes it to be related to heavy metal exposure. Three people on one of her classrooms in school developed the disease, they were allowed to play with liquid mercury at school
