Stinks that he’s injured again. Our choices at CB are Klavan, Lovren, Gomez, Can I guess...
When you compare our CB options to our top competitors it’s depressing.

Chelski: Luis, Cahill, Christensen, Ruddiger, Zouma
Shity: Kompany, Mangala, Otamendi, Stones
Manure: Jones, Smalling, Bailley, Lindelof
Arse: Mertesacker, Koscielny, Jenkinson, Mustafi,
Spuds: Alderwereild, Sanchez, Vertonghen, Wimmer

Note: I’m certain I’ve missed a few, included a few that should not have been, certainly misspelled some and left out some that can play CB but primarily play elsewhere

Our CB’s pale in comparison sadly....this needs to be addressed come January IMO

Geez: Klopp just said; Klavan ill, Matip injured, Gomez ill ...... with Clyne out indefinitely and Matip having injuries frequently we’re in crisis at the back

I've just fixed it for you.... Spurs don't seem to be doing to well now, do they? With Alderwerield out, and Sanchez ban, no?

Would someone please enlighten me why everyone is thinking that Joel Matip is injury prone? This is simply not true and meanwhile really annoying!

Last season he missed 10! games (incl. some games missed due to that "Cameroon drama" ) and this season he has played nearly everything so far and only missed 3 until now.

He missed only 16 games during his whole time at Schalke...

There was an article on the main site detailing that "Matip suffered five different injuries in his debut season at Anfield last year, and this latest setback is his fourth different one this time around." It's hardly suprising, that he's viewed as injury prone.

I`ve no idea about that article... and it is simply not true, just look at his stats on transfermarkt. This is just ridiculous as always in english media. Even on the Tia main side.

I don’t think he’s (Matip) injury prone but has been more recently. As you already know it’s frustrating for us fans given he’s considered our most reliable CB for him to have any injury, and is compounded because we have a lack of others.

I’m certain we’re going to try land someone/ someone’s in January that can help with our defense, or we risk a top 4 finish

Grujic has injured his hand, with Klopp thinking of sending him out on loan. A wee disappointed, because I think he should be playing at either Milner's or Henderson's expense. He would add a little aggression to our soft middle.

Clearly a talented lad, but he does look like a red card waiting to happen whenever I've seen him play. I think putting him in over Henderson or Milner isn't really sensible.

Just looking at this again, and I don't think there is a mad gulf there tbh.

Chelski: Luis, Cahill, Christensen, Ruddiger, Zouma
Shity: Kompany, Mangala, Otamendi, Stones
Manure: Jones, Smalling, Bailley, Lindelof
Arse: Mertesacker, Koscielny, Jenkinson, Mustafi,

At Chelsea they play three at the back, and you should include Azpilaqueta (who is fucking brilliant, by the way). Luis has been bombed out and Zouma is on loan at Stoke. A well place injury or suspension here and they could be in big trouble.

I'm not convinced by any of Man City's defenders, and they are very much cut from the same cloth as we are. Their best defender has a much worse injury record than any of ours, and while Stones looks like he might finally be settling, the other two don't inspire much confidence.

Man Utd defo aren't have the best of the top six defensive options. That said they aren't massively stoked in depth, and I don't think any Utd fan would be happy going into an extended spell with Smalling and Jones at the back.

Not a lot of pace in that Arsenal backline. Mertesaker looks like his best days are behind him, Mustafi can blow got or cold, and I'm not sure Jenkinson belongs at this level.

Spurs have good on paper option, but Alderweireld is injured, and Sanchez just got a straight red, and suddenly they don't look as strong in depth as the Spurs wankfest has suggested.

I don't dispute our defence is in dire need of improvement, and there is obviously a lot of work to be done over the next two windows. But I think we can sometimes overstate how much better our competitors have it than us.

I think he has missed rather more training due to injury - he seems quite prone to the Saturday to Wednesday sort of knovk.

Suggests that there will still be a fair amount of competition for the best available CBs in the next couple of windows.

I'm amazed more clubs didn't have a proper run at Van Dijk, but as soon as it broke he wanted us, everyone sort of backed off.

Makes my wonder if there isn't a bit of gentle cooperation amongst clubs around transfers. It it isn't in anyone's interest to keep driving up wages and fees.

Just an insight to how this thread gets to people:

Just came on, clicked new posts and the first two was this one and the Sadio Mané thread (which hasn't seen movement for a while). My palms went sweaty, mouth dry and a little tremble as I opened the page. For the love of God chaps, keep the idle chit chat to the other threads. Just to keep us from getting panic attacks, like.

I don't think so personally. Aside from the usual dislikes and rivalries among clubs that would preclude any such co-operation, I think there's a certain few - particularly United, City and Chelsea - that don't give the smallest shit about distorting the transfer market.

Perhaps a strange question, but are there FA/PL requirements that clubs disclose player injuries?

No. There are no transparency requirements. Fortunately, absolutely no one ever bets on European football, so there are no real issues involved with that lack of disclosure.

Absolutely fair, but I think our main problem stems from lack of protection from midfield, specifically a defensive/holding-type midfielder.

Man City: Fernandinho/Gundogan
Man U: Matic
Chelsea: Kante
Spurs: Dier/Wanyama
Arsenal: Xhaka/Coquelin

I would say all are better at shielding their backline than Henderson. Whether they are all better than Can is debatable but most of them are. Anyway when we play Can and Hendo together Hendo ends up being the deepest lying one which is just not his strength.

Any updates on Lallana? If I'm right, nothing new happened, but Klopp opted to give him more training time? Though haven't seen him in training footage with the rest of the squad.

Moreno to see specialist amid fears could be out until New Year. Klopp: “We need to have further assessment. So far it could be everything. I cannot say much about it. It’s a very rare thing.”

Okay then, put Milner on Sunday and give Robbo his chance against WBA. See how they do and take it from there for following games.

Whilst wishing Moreno a speedy recovery I cant say I'm too gutted about the prospect of seeing someone else at LB. Robertson seems to offer everything Moreno does, without the occasional bout of stupidity, and my confidence levels in the left hand side of our defence went up 100% when Milner replaced him the other night. Milner offers more in an attacking sense as well. The only thing we will miss is Moreno's recovery speed but that can be mitigated by having players there who are not caught out of position in the first place.

Klopp says "one or two" doubts for WBA due to challenges in the derby. Moreno still out "possibly not for long time or possibly for six weeks, not decided" and Lallana back in training.

Also says that Matip is out of WBA game.

Not too much to hope for that one of the doubts is Lovren, is it?

Bah then there's our lack of CB's to hope it isn't. Sucks, it does. :((
