Possible a buy and stay out on loan deal could be agreed, no?
ER...no seems to be a pretty dumb answer now.
Yeah, that's possible. Will klopp be ok with it though?
worth a read bud...
If Klopp really wants Dahoud, that seems to be the best solution. However, there's this:
Ed Aarons @ed_aarons
Told reports Liverpool target Mahmoud Dahoud has £8.5m release clause next season not strictly true. Gladbach will not sell this summer #lfc
We seem well stocked in a lot of areas but we're yet to see whether those players are of required quality - a lot of them are seen as having potential but probably aren't consistently fit, good and/or developed enough to be considered top players. Dahoud seems to fall into "potential" category as well but he's said to be consistent in his performances for BMG, both in Bundesliga and CL and perhaps he's the missing piece in our midfield.
However, Klopp doesn't look hell bent on signing him this summer - maybe it's because he wants to further assess his options. If Henderson regains full fitness, he'll have a chance to prove that he deserves his place in this Liverpool side, Stewart is progressing nicely, Wijnaldum has only just signed, same goes for Grujić. Then there's Lallana who looked surprisingly good in central midfield role. None of them share Dahoud's playing traits, though. I think that Klopp will wait until the closing stages of this season to decide whether to pursue Dahoud or another midfielder with similar qualities.
Not really. As I already pointed out, your post that I was responding suggested that we made a deliberate choice EARLY in the window to pursue him NEXT summer when (if true) his clause activates.
I'm not sure why you are directing me to this link.
Could it be that everything is stalled until BMG has played their CL quali games ? So maybe there is a small chance to get Dahoud if BMG would fail to qualify?
they are playing 16/17.8 and 23/24.8 against Young Boys bern, (i´ve no idea about that opponent)
If the clause story isn't true, then unlikely I would have thought.
If the Guardian story is true then other clubs with CL football and more cash are after him now as well.
We played young boys during BR's reign I believe. Swiss club, they did well.
Next summer how long will he be into his current deal? Could it be that he's outside of his 'protected period' (first 3 years) next year thus providing for a de facto release clause in an amount TBD?
Does that apply to youngsters?
It would apply to him, over 28 and the protected period is 2 years.
He's not over 28 though.
That's the age at which it drops to 2 years. At Dahoud's age it is 3 years.
I don't understand these links... especially after we signed Wijnaldum?
Where would he fit in and who would he replace?
I'm thinkin' #1 priority: LB
3rd: Striker?... if we offload Balo and Benteke? CB? which seems weird since we actually have a very good 4 + Lucas, Gomez and Can...?
How come no one at LFC seem to think we'll ever need a good DM apart from the fans?
Wijnaldum is more of a central or attacking midfielder. If Klopp is looking for a dedicated defensive midfielder, then Dahoud fits the bill perfectly. Maybe Dahoud and Can would vie for the DM spot, whilst Wijnaldum, Henderson, Milner, Stewart and Lallana will compete for the other two spots in a midfield 3.
I though Xhaka was the more defensive type out of Dahoud and him? Does Dahoud also play at DM? Also if we do bring him (next year) it is more likely someone will let go. Most probably Milner and Lucas, if he doesn't leave this window.
He's not a DM though and his strengths are his attacking play, he would be competing for the more forward thinking spot in a 2 or 3 man midfield; that's where he would be more influential.
Since when has Dahoud been a dedicated defensive midfielder???!
On the bench tonight for Monchengladbach, away to Young Boys (1st leg).
Dahoud is not coming this season. That much is apparent.
If we're going to spend a lot for a midfielder why not look for a top prospect like Ruben Neves for example? Too young?
Think our link to Rubén died out under Klopp, so maybe not his style of player?
I think we will be back in big style for this lad in Jan, I think Klopp has identified some players he wants to build his team around and I think Dahoud is one of these.
See you in january I hope.
Time to close this (not that we were interested anymore), officially announced that he's joining Dortmund.
I get the feeling we'd cooled on this one anyway, for whatever reason.
I thought it was pretty obvious. Such a huge push last summer, and then nothing since then. The only talk of us trying to get him beyond then was by fans, and none of our regular go-to journalists. Either the club had decided there were better options, or something happened that put them off him (i.e involvement of other clubs).
Will reopen this one in three years, after Dortmund has finished with him, and shortly before he signs for Utd.
