Depending which way the rain is coming from, sometimes I think if we lose this the title challenge is effectively over and other times, I think that it wont. But Ive come to the conclusion it is a must not lose game because it would hand the initiative to city and give spurs a boost, the same spurs I reckoned were out of the title race until we dropped points against Leicester and West Ham while they spawned 3 wins out of 3 with an absent kane! A draw wouldnt be the end of the world and still leave us a point ahead of city with the same number of games played.

I thought a major failing in the defeat at city is we just didnt seem to be expecting city to come at us as they did. We were on the back foot from the kick off. I dont expect or want to see that against united on Sunday. The players simply have to be ready for united and up for it. I dont want to see us repeatedly passing the ball back from midfield all the way to the keeper and putting him under pressure. That doesnt mean I expect us to go gung ho! Just keep possession, make the ball do the work with accurate passing and try and run the legs out of united.

Both Mo and Bobby need to step up and Id like to see the pair of them cut out unecessary back heels, little flicks and generally, losing possession cheaply. Both Trent and Robbo need to be more effective going forward than in the Bayern game. Cmon reds.

Allison, Trent, Matip, van Dijk, Robbo, Fabinho, Gini, Hendo, Mo, Bobby, Sadio.

Massive game. Any point will take us top. A win would be a huge confidence boost.
Nothing silly, ie no red cards, and it should be a decent game where we can grab a win.
However, I don’t see it. United will want this so badly, and I foresee a 2-1 united win.
And with Man City to win league cup on same day it’ll be a double victory for them.

Perhaps a season defining match, playing Utd a away, while they are on a high. Stuff memories are made of.

While usually the hope is to beat them as hard as possible, I find myself having second thoughts. Get all 3 points is goal, but we still need them to play city, and hopefully make them drop a few points, so I wouldn't want to shatter their fragile confidance. A nice 1-0 will do for me just fine.

I've no concerns about this game.
Time to put this mythical notion that Utd have fixed their problems because they've beaten some bottom half teams lately to bed.

Comfortable win.

Well for me if we beat this lot it's Christmas for a week! this is Bayern x 10 to some others It's times a billion. It's more than the than a game it's about the half fans been able to go to work the next day, I don't think there's anything in the world that makes me happier when I beat these prick jobs. Com'on!!

For me it’s Alisson,TAA,Matip,VVD,Robbo

Hendo must start for his performance against Bayern, get him to mark Pogba as Hendo shows up for the big games. If Pogbas quite we will win.

Fabinho and Keita must start as we need to win, Fab to roam box to box and Keita to expose Matic and that defence.

4-3-3 imo to match United’s 4-3-3

Shaqiri on for Keita/Hendo imo depends

Milner for Keita if winning

Quite the stadium early and we will have it , need the traveling to inspire more than ever at this stage.

This is the players chance to show that they can be champions ,that they want to be champions
Man U performance has been very good since ogs took over and I dare say we are the under dogs here
Controlling the midfield will be key to winning the game
Fortunately I think martial n Lingard their fastest players are out , their pace could really hurt us hopefully the fat slow Sanchez will play instead
The kickoff timing is perfect again (I notice we win usually during this kickoff times) , I see the stars are aligned for a narrow Liverpool win. 0-1 to us !

United will give this game absolutely everything they possibly can obviously but I do think Its a sorry state of affairs when Manchester United want to beat a team so that Manchester City go top of the league(regardless of whether it’s us haha). I Think it was sherwood saying it’s the worst time to play them as well. I agree to some extent. They have improved under ole. Torn apart by PSG but overall an improvement. Surely they will attack and that should play into our hands. I predict either a very tense game 1 goal being the difference or a 0-0

I agree they will be giving this more than they ever have. Confidence is flowing whilst we seem a bit shaky at the mo in the league. I think klopp might play for a draw

Early goal will be key in what will be a poisonous atmosphere at OT. If we can get one, we might be able to break the game open later on. Not sure if I’m looking forward to this or not, could be a pivotal result either way.

The one game in the season that I can't watch.......with Pogba back to his best I just can't see us getting anything from this. Just when we are faltering, they have run into a rich vein of form.

This should be a proper football match, now that mourinho and his dark arts have gone.

I think it will be the couch again for me.

I’ll take a draw, means that we are still top. But I’ve got this feeling that we are much better than them, we have the potential to give them a hiding.

They look much sharper under agent Solskjaer, but that new manager bounce is about to end... and there will be a clear message that we send out.

2-0 to us. Salah and Robbo.

The FA appointed Michael Oliver to my surprise. I was expecting manc Taylor, or the idiot's Friend or Moss but with Oliver we get an excellent referee IMO. I say a hard fought 1-2 for the good guys.

The FA don't appoint the refs.

The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) is the body responsible for match officials in English professional football.

Formerly known as the Professional Game Match Officials Board (PGMOB), it was formed when English referees became professional in 2001, to provide officials for all games played in the Premier League, Football League and Football Association (FA) competitions. The organisation is funded by the Premier League, Football League and the FA.

The Select Group Referees primarily officiate in the Premier League, Football League Cup and FA Cup and will also occasionally referee in the Football League.

Think VvD, Milner and Shaqiri will come into the team.

Shaqiri -> 4-2-3-1
Milner in a double pivot? Not sure about that. So maybe he starts at RB?

This really is a statement game for this group of players and their potential title credentials. Champions go to Old Trafford and put on a performance and take the 3 points and set down a marker for the rest of the season. When you look back at the rise of other teams that won the title like City, Arsenal and Chelsea, they went to Old Trafford and got the 3 points on their way to winning the league.

I think this group of players need the belief and momentum that a win Sunday will undoubtedly bring. 3 points Sunday and I really believe we can go on and win the league and it will be a big blow to City. I don't want to contemplate what a defeat will mean.

I expect Klopp to go with a midfield of Fabinho, Henderson and Gini, don't think he trusts Keita for this game. I hope we are positive and take the game to United and when they have the ball set traps allover the field for them and use our pace and their lack of pace to hurt them on the break.

I'm dreaming of 3 points

The scum midfield lineup will be Matic and Herrera as the defensive minded two, with Pogba being given freedom to make runs into the box. Expect plenty of snidy fouls from them, especially in the first half when the ref will want to keep his card in his pocket.

For our corners, I’d like to see VVD getting a run to the ball rather than from a standing position near the goalie. I wouldn’t be surprised to see 0-0 at half time, before we take the lead in the second half. De Gea will be on form as usual against us.

Mata usually does well against us as well, using intelligent positional play to bring in players like Rashford. It’s something our midfielders need to be aware of. Overall, it could be a game were we need to be patient with a goal not coming till late in the game.

Though I’d love a 10 minute blitz at the start to get a goal or two.

Hearing from a reliable source that in the three days between United and Watford, Klopp is taking the players out to New Zealand for another warm weather break
As long as they hike up the mountain locations for the Lord of the Rings trilogy and throw Gollum to his agonising death in the lava of Mount Doom I'm all for it!
Back in the Shire all will be well against Twatford.

Old Trafford can be a big and scary place to go to and in recent years there have been too many times when we just haven't looked like we've fancied it much. Last season we were 2-0 down and out in the first 20 minutes. Didn't get out of the blocks and it was all over before we even got started. Their fans will be absolutely rabid here. They are desperate to stop us getting number 19 and most of the country it seems expect us to lose. This is the game that will tell us whether our lads have got the cojones for a title race. We have got to be right on it from minute one.

Defeat wouldn't be the end of it all but it would be a big blow. Personally I think this is a must not lose. A draw is a perfectly good result and keeps things in our own hands. Win and we are flying again. Utd are playing well but PSG (and Spurs) exposed their limitations. We are a better team but we must hold our nerve and be more clinical in front of goal when the chances come.

Think this is absolutely spot on.....it’s not so much a ‘must win’ game, but more of a ‘must not lose’ match.

Without being overly critical because injuries have affected team shape and fluency recently, a number of players need to step up.

Fabinho has been consistently excellent with Hendo and Wini decent. No real gripes with TAA as he is feeling his way back, Matip has had to step into big games without much games time behind him. Keita is still disappointing overall, but is showing signs of decent improvement.

However there is definitely more to come from a few of our usual solid performers who have been a little below par of late......Mane, Mo, Robertson and even Alisson at times.

If ever there was a game that we need everyone in synch and firing on all cylinders, it is this one.

Manure seem to have recaptured that ability to make teams/fans fear them yet they’ve not played any top PL sides and got given a footballing lesson by an understrength PSG at old toilet. They ain’t anything to be fearful of and Liverpool should come away with 3pts if they play to their highest standard.

I’m going for a hard fought 2-0 victory which puts the pressure right back on City and in turn takes the gloss of their cup victory.

COME ON LIVERPOOL!!!

I brought you a convincing win last time (although I can't compare to our magnificent nobluff) and there's no reason we can't get another 3 points. This is more than a banana skin, its a game where we can easily drop points. A truly massive game, if we can manage a win here then I feel that's a real statement for the rest of the season. United have been banging the goals in, (something like 3.4 per game v 1.5 for LFC this year) scoring at more than double the rate of LFC this year, so it's great that the Big Man is able to return.

The team I want to see is:

..................Becker..................
Trent...Matip....Van Dijk.....Robertson
...............Henderson. .....................
......Fabinho. .........Wijnaldum......
Salah........Firmino. ...............Mane

Away win 1-2.
Was about to post my lineup, but saw it was going to be exactly the same as yours so instead I shall just agree. I'd probably switch Fab and Hendo around, though my main job for Hendo would be to stick to Pogba and upset his game, so really just position him wherever he can best achieve that.

With them missing their main pace out wide, I think taking Pogba out of the game would give us an excellent chance of controlling this one and getting something from it.

I was speaking to a United fan at work and he said that, since OGS returned, it is the first time in years that he is actually enjoying to the matches but I'm wondering how long the OGS feel-good factor is going to last - I'm hoping it comes down to Earth with a bump on Sunday!

I have to admit that I always liked Solskjær as a player - it was just a mystery to me why he wasted his best years warming up the bench at Old Trafford. From the couple of games I've seen from United with him in charge they have looked entertaining enough so I am expecting a big improvement on that front compared to that dire game at Anfield that saw Moaniho get sacked. This is actually the first time in years where I have been remotely looking forward to a game against United - at least from the football perspective.

United appear to pick up goals from playing high balls across the box so two tall centre backs in VVD and Matip are essential although if we go with Robbo and TAA they should be able to prevent most of the dangerous balls to start with. In fact, I think our defence should pick itself on this one. A 4-3-3 would suit us but I can't decide on the midfield. I'd like to see Fabinho back there and Hendo's performance against Bayern should have him first on the team sheet. For the other slot I'd be tempted to pick Wijnaldum which is what I think the opening poster went for but is that going to be creative enough? In that case, would 4-2-3-1 be better? I'm assuming Klopp has a better idea than me.

After the Leicester game I pointed out that we had space for two slip-ups in the league (draws instead of victories) but we blew one against West Ham. This game was the one where I thought the points in hand could have been useful as we rarely get a result at OT. However, I think we could get a win here. A draw would be acceptable but that would leave us with the finest of margins. 3 points would be a real bonus.

I just hope we defend well. Keep Pogba and Rashord as quiet as possible, we need to control and please let our finishing be better then it was against Bayern.
