Naby Keita (CM) Red Bull Leipzig

Discussion in 'Rumour Mill - Transfer Talk' started by ubermick, Mar 13, 2017.

?

How much should LFC pay for Keita?

  1. No more than £30m - still a lad

  2. Up to £40m - good price for a midfielder of his age

  3. Up to £50m - that's his release clause next year

  4. Up to £60m - he's worth it

  5. Up to £70m - excellent player and will be immense for us

  6. Up to £80m - He's THAT good

  7. Anything RB Leipzig wants. ANYTHING. Just get it done.

Sometimes I feel like no one reads my posts...But then I have no "Schmerzgrenze", when it comes to being ignored apparently.

I wonder if Southampton has a penchant for a low Schmerzgrenze

I just read (in German) that Leipzig and salzburg have taken measures to separate and are now fully separate. Red bull are now only a sponsor by Salzburg and no positions at clubs are shared anymore... so, it looks 90% to me that Leipzig will get the nod.

Highly doubtful as there has been no actual changes of ownership during that time and they've just signed a player from Salzburg that they somehow knew the buyout clause for.

I don't know, it depends on how much of a fuss Bayern kicks up in the UEFA.... if Bayern and those big clubs don't really give a fuck, I don't think UEFA would go so strict if measures have been taken now. Remember Roman Abramovich and his ties with another Russian club?

its complicated because in the Austrian league, only non-profit organisations can own a football club.

However TV rights, merchandise etc can be owned by a private company...and I believe that is Red bull.

So while in the strictisted sense Red Bull Salzburg is not owned by Red Bull, everyone knows they bankroll the club, they are the private comany associatied with the club.

Sibneft sponsored and possibly bank rolled CSKA to their European glory. The difference is, Salzburg used Red Bull in their club name and CSKA didn't incorporate Sibneft in their club name. Contentious? Yes. But not enough to impose a ban on Chelsea back then, it won't be enough to impose a ban on Leipzig....

It's a bit more complicated than that, as far as I understand it. It's about contributing more than 30% to the revenue of a club. While Red Bull officially has become a sponsor only at Salzburg since 2015 and now their contribution is reportedly under 30%, one of the reasons for that being the case is ironically the transfers they made to Red Bull Leipzig.

So, Leipzig really don't want to let Keita go. If we can't get him, anyone have any thoughts on a back up option?

I like Paredes from Roma. Very different players, but both primarily CM's.

I asked basically the same question a few weeks ago, for the same reason - if you're interested, you can see the answers/discussion on the Rumours thread, starting on page 532 - Paredes is being discussed as well;-)

The fact that we are not linked to other CMs tells me that LFC is still confident of signing Keita. I think Keita will tell his club that he wants to leave just before their pre season start. I don't believe that this will drag until the end of the window like the other member wrote. If Leipzig refuses to sell until mid July Klopp will look elsewhere to strengthen that key area.

Probably not. There is no indication his club is wanting or needing to sell. Just the opposite.

Of course not - our only hope is that the player could ask for a transfer when everybody returns from vacation or at the start of their pre season. We're not linked with any other CMs (same with LBs) at the moment so LFC could still be very confident about signing Keita - could aswell end bad.

I am sure all that confidence comes from the agent of Keita. Same as Mane. Well we all know how it could end when the agents are driving things - Aidy Ward, Mino Raiola, etc.

What bothers me is that is looks like we are limited when it comes to possible targets. In CM it feels like "Keita or no one" and for LB we are not linked with anyone at the moment.
That "VvD tapping up thing" also feels like we paused all the other Transfer work until we are cleared by the PL.
Klopp wanted to get business done asap but I don't think we will get even 50% of our Transfers done before start of pre season.

Last season - 2 out of 3 successful transfers came out of blue - Mane and Wijnaldum.
I assume that now we are doing things behind the closed door for true. I like that we don't really know whats happening inside the club. It should be like that. None of this PR nonsense. We don't need to know the name of the player until he signs the damn contract.

Now that UEFA has ruled that both Red Bull clubs can play in champions league, we may get movement on this one way or another. It's been quiet for a while, and I have the feeling we were both waiting to see what would happen with this. Maybe it means he goes for a higher fee, maybe he is now unattainable. We will see.

They are perma linked to him, as is pretty much any German player of his status, but I haven't seen anything concrete and even seen him earlier this summer flat out deny plans to move there.

Replacement? They play in a European competition for the first time. They need the bigger squad even more than Liverpool does.
