For the minimum target of top 4, we can discount Arsenal now, because if we finish below them, with them being 15 points behind with 27 left to play for, we won't be top four anyway and won't deserve it. We just need Arsenal not to win the EL and to pick up points against any top 5 sides they play.

Chelsea remain a threat for 4th, they could have a good run in the PL if they go out of the CL. We need 7 wins from 9 to be sure of finishing above them, though I suspect they won't win every match.

We need to target 3rd or above for lots of reasons, including the possibility of a PL CL EL double of sides outside top 4, but also showing season on season progress, more prize money, and most importantly showing we have the mentality to close out whatever our goal is.

The title is gone, in fact it was never there for us, but we're in a three way fight for second, with a consolation of certain CL qualification if we finish third, and almost certain if we finish 4th.

Let's see us relentlessly pursue that goal whilst still competing in Europe, that'd be encouraging.

The biggest risk remains a few key injuries or suspensions, which is why it's important to pick up every point now, whilst everyone is fit and available.

We've the international break, Everton's inevitable maiming of a player or two, and some potential energy sapping midweek European matches to contend with from the end of the month onwards, so navigating tomorrow night, not losing at United and then winning the PL match before the wretched international break, are really important.

Thanks for the reminder about the international break, let's hope our (four?) prospects for an England berth can strike a balance between ambitions they'll have for World Cup squad places and their availability for their employer up to the tape.

For the sake of our position, we need to win the next 4. That way City will have to go to Spurs and win that match before they can lift the title. Which is good for us. So Klopp and the gang, you now what to do....

I think four would take us to when spurs and Chelsea play? If so that could have us 9-10 points ahead of Chelsea after that game - with just 5 games remaking.

Not thinking about 4th spot anymore at this point.... here's what I think the permutation has been made for the bookies to start fixing some matches to make the final run of the season interesting.

When can Man City be crowned Premier League champions?
If Liverpool beat United at Old Trafford, and win all their other games (vs. Watford, Palace, Everton, Bournemouth), City would have to wait until they go to Tottenham on April 14 to guarantee it with those four wins.
I am pretty sure City will be in the Champs League Quarter Finals, which second leg will be played 10-11, and assuming they got through and going into semis, which will be played in 24/25th April. They would want to wrap things up before then. If we were to push forward and win all those 4 matches after beating United, then we would see them pushing to beat Spurs, to secure their title and going into the semis without that hanging over their head. Ideally for them, they would want it to be done during their match against United, but that depends on whether any of us dropping points. United win has made them needing to win all their matches including the one against United to secure it if we drop points and United don't. Which isn't ideal.

I am hoping to see us winning 2nd or 3rd spot. Progress....

We'll win eight lose one.
Are we playing 39 games now?
Still think we can finish second. Winning all of our remaining games is possible. Reckon City will beat Utd and we then only need Utd to draw one in order to get level on points. Our GD is better than theirs and if we win every game then barring a miracle, i.e. Utd start scoring goals for fun, then it will stay better than theirs.

EDIT: our GD will be better than theirs after they lose 3-0 to Man City!

Well, with Tottenham, ManU, and Chelsea all crashing out of CL, we’re left with Man City as the only EPL teams left standing. Technically, should be a disadvantage to us in terms of the race for top 4, but I’m not sure that I see it that way.

After the quarterfinal CL draw on Friday, we have 2 games against weaker opposition before Spurs and Chelsea square off on the 1st of April. I think these 3 games will be crucial to how the final run in plays out.

Best case scenarios: We win both games, and then either Spurs and Chelsea draw, or Spurs beat Chelsea. If either of these scenarios play out, then we have a pretty sizable cushion over Chelsea and there’s huge pressure on them to take every available point.

Worst case scenarios: We drop points in these games, and Chelsea defeat Spurs. Then, it’s suddenly a very, very tight race for 3rd and 4th, and a loss at the Bridge could end up deadly.

I think the excitement of being in the CL also helps with our momentum in the league.

you need the games so that players can fight for places.. less games means you'll see a drop in performances..because a manager will select his "first 11" to try and secure points ..

It creates "hunger" - and that must be a key ingredient to good performances and wins...

Some places up for grabs for the Champions League Final.
could sturridge still be eligible as home grown ? lol or is he now permanently evicted ? for the final i mean. would have been a fantastic climax to his time here if he popped up with a winner in a european cup final.. feels a bit like fowler in terms of 2007 when he wasn't there . not comparing the two.. but more their injuries and destiny .

I see our next game is Palace away. 12.30 on the Saturday straight after the international break. Followed by the Derby, also 12.30 on the Saturday after we've played the first leg against City on the Wednesday evening.
It's a good job I'm not paranoid or think there's some sort of agenda against this football club within the powers-that-be in this country, otherwise I'd be forgiven for thinking there was some sort of agenda against this football club.

We have 7 points more than Chelsea whom plaid a game less. They still have to play Spurs and us. Our GD is +39 and theirs is +25 so you can say we are 8 points in front of them, we have it all in our own hands and it should be enough to secure T4 again.

Things can change very fast in this league. The matchday after the international break seems crucial to me. We play at Palace on saturday (early kick off) while on sunday evening it's Chelsea vs. Tottenham. If we win and Chelsea fails to beat Spurs - that would make me believe that Chelsea won't catch us anymore.

However i still expect us to end up second.
