Not sure i see him play the Alli role better than Dele Alli, he's a totally different player. He might be a better player overall, but that particular role would have to change if he took over from him.
Agree, it would be a very different dynamic. With Kane's tendency to drop and help build the play, it's perfect to have someone like Alli in the #10 position, who has great off ball movement and doesn't demand a lot of touches. I think Coutinho would be best suited to play the inside left position, like he did for Liverpool.

Full of revisionist history in here about Coutinhos talent level.

The boy is elite. It didn't work out for him at Barca, that happens. Barca have had a rotating crop of players who are superstars who just haven't worked out there for whatever reason. Well, it's not really whatever reason. It's because of the little dictator.

Coutinho plays a game not remarkably dissimilar to Messi, not necessarily in style, but in effect. He also isn't as good as Messi, but no one is, so obviously he won't get the opportunities to shine there. It's ironic that when we bought him he was a more complementary player to Messi than when we sold him. We got him as a player who played delicious little through balls for Sturridge and Suarez, and we converted him into more of an inside forward. It's Barcas own fault that they bought a player who's current skillset doesn't match the one he had 5 years ago.

I would take him back in a heartbeat. I don't see him going anywhere this transfer window, but I could potentially see us moving for him next year at a discount if it still hasn't worked out. I know Dortmund a different kettle of fish, but they've brought back players who left. Klopp had a history for it there if I'm not mistaken. Could see it happening here.

I do feel a Coutinho of a few years back may have unlocked us that extra point or two last season.

But that's up to the club, if he came back so be it, I'd not be upset but if he started on about his back again the loan could be ended quickly.

Hypothetical question but if the Shaqiri rumours are true and Monaco are willing to pay £30m for him would you pay that to Barcelona for a one year loan of Coutinho and then pay £50m next summer to buy him permanently?

In a heartbeat , provided Phil reduces his wage demands.

I'm still holding out hope he's rejecting the rest of the PL teams hoping there's interested from Liverpool and we're likewise interested in him but holding out for the most favorable terms from Barca as they're clearly very keen to loan him. Seems like he's off one way or the other, wouldn't be surprised to see a late deal to any of the PL teams he's "rejected" sometime tomorrow before the window shuts.

I think it certainly opens the door to a deal being done - who else would be available at short notice?

Sky Sport “claiming” Barcelona and Coutinho both favours permanent transfer with the fee set at 80 million.
I do wonder if Liverpool are waiting for that price to fall a bit lower and then take a punt on him

I doubt it, that fee won't even be enough to cover the balance they still owe us at €93m which is about £86m. So fake news.....

If the fee is 80 mil, I can't see anyone in the PL but us or United being able to throw that sort of money around. If we really wanted him, and I'm not convinced we do, I imagine we'd be looking to pay no more then $70.

Could definitely see Barcelona selling Coutinho for around £80m. It more than covers what they still owe us (no more than £53m).

Have Spurs signed any full backs yet?

Sounds like they still want to bring in Sessegnon.

Nobody to replace Trippier yet then? If they want Sessegnon I wonder if they're looking to play three at the back more often?
Haven't they go Aurier still?

I can believe that we’d be the only English he’d come back too
Nor me. I’m not sure what his game plan is. Wouldn’t surprise me if Liverpool wait until 4.45pm and offer something far less than Barcelona want. See how desperate they are to get rid.

Coutinho situation is of his own making. Far away hills turned out to be less green than he imagined. His value is only going down because it looks like his game time is going to be even more limited this season.
Let's hope the lesson is not lost on Sadbobmo.
