Fucking proud of the lads tonight; we really couldn’t have asked much more of them.

It’s a pity that we didn’t convert our early domination into goals and then Villa scored from their first chance; they followed that with a total fluke and that was game over.

Still, our boys didn’t allow their heads to drop and acquitted themselves with real credit, fighting for every ball and showing no little skill in the process. On another day, we’d have scored a goal or two and put a more realistic perspective to the scoreline.

And the best thing is that that scoreline flattered Villa. We were better than them for significant stretches of the match and their keeper had to make a few decent saves, whereas Kelleher had no chance with any of their goals.

In fact, would it be perverse to argue that Nyland was man of the match in a game his team just won five nil?

The future is bright for several of our kids and, even if they don’t make the grade at Anfield, they should carve out solid careers elsewhere. As everyone else has already said, Harvey Elliott stood out and should be knocking on the door of the first team before too long. Special mentions, too, to Hill and Chirivella, who both did their best in difficult circumstances.

And the Travelling Kop were brilliant, cheering on our boys throughout. Reminding Villa that they’re going down was a nice touch and our four thousand loyal supporters outsang the home fans throughout the match.

Off to listen to Paul Hardcastle now.

P.S. Rest assured, Bluemoon, that we will never slag you off for prioritising the Club World Cup... because your club will never fucking get there.

well, it's our u-23 vs. villa b team, boys against men. still, 4-nil down (deflection, own goal and mistakes) at half-time was rather shocking. getting schooled 0-5 would only make our young players better and stronger in the future. (y)

nothing against chirivella. he's been with us since brandon rodgers' reign but still can't make the 1st team. he has no future with liverpool. only elliott and hoever are likely to make the grade.

The technical ability of the lads is right up there. So comfortable on the ball, and so assured in possession.

Where it’s isn’t there is the ability in the box to stay calm and be decisive (although we were unlucky to not get at least one) and in defence, where experience is the most important thing.

End of half time they had 3 shots and 4 goals and we had 10 000 shots (or there abouts) and zero goals, said it all.

Proud off all of them, special mentions to Elliot, Hoever and Kane. MOTM was split between the Villa goalkeeper and the traveling Kop, outstanding support.

Can't wait for tomorrows game now.

They didn’t deserve to lose 5-0 tonight. For the most part we were the better team, just as you would expect way below the level of the opponent in both boxes. Shame we couldn’t grab a goal. Elliot continues to impress, think we might have a gem on our hands.

Well played we were better apart from at the sharp ened really lacked a CF but proud great effort from all and good to see Sepp have a better 2nd half.

I have concerns with this high line and offside we pkay at times our Centre backs hold the line rather than follow the man the last goal is a classic example and its not the first by us this year

I thought he was great tonight. It might be a bit late now to make it here, but he has obviously got ability.

Immensely proud of the fight and commitment on display tonight.

The lads got a few harsh lessons about life at the top and really deserved a goal or two for the creativity they (Harvey) showed in the final third.

Stats aren't the be all and end all, but for me it speaks volumes that the team outpossessed and outshot premier league opposition.

They represented Liverpool well, which is all we could ask for.
