Never in doubt.

Blatant foul on Gomez for the opening goal; a few minutes later, Bobby has a Bournemouth defender almost hanging off him but no foul is awarded. Or Lerma kicks Mané but Bournemouth get the free kick. How does that work? I strongly suspect that the powers that be do not want us to break their darling Manchester clubs’ record for the earliest title win or City’s record points total.

At least Mo, with a deft finish, and Sadio, after a quality pass from VVD, managed to put us in front by half time. Jürgen looked like he was going to give the boys the good old Haartrockner treatment at the break after a shoddy, disjointed first 45 minutes.

Instead of the expected reaction, we were lethargic again in the second half; good job Milly was awake enough to make a goal line clearance when Adrián was chipped by Fraser. Sadio was unlucky to see a vicious 25-yarder crash off the post but we didn’t really threaten much. Bobby encapsulated our performance with his hoof into row Z near the end of the match.

Many have commented that this more measured, controlled approach is a deliberate ploy to conserve energy; the problem with a one-goal lead is that it just takes one wonder strike, bad refereeing decision or defensive howler for two points to be dropped.

No individual player really stood out for us-it says a lot about our current form that even Virgil looks merely mortal at the moment- and we’re going to have to be a lot more “on it” when Atlético Madrid come to Anfield on Wednesday evening.

One thing is for certain: play like this and we’ll be out of Europe on Thursday morning.

MOTM: those fine brewers at Duvel Moortgat. Their wonderful golden beer remains amongst the finest in the world; I got through one bottle in the first half and two more in the second! Needed something to keep me awake.

Another lucky escape like West Ham.

Their first shouldn't have stood but Bournemouth will count themselves unfortunate that Cook went off for Simpson, who was a liability.

We played better at times but that level of performance still won't be enough for Atletico. Fabinho was a horrorshow again and Firmino is really off the boil too. I think it's about time certain players lost their certainty in the 11, at least for a short term period.

James Milner is utterly reliable and deserving of his MOTM award from BT. Ake was probably the best player on the pitch for me though, he was imperious at the back for Bournemouth.

Still a lot of work to be done.

Our midfield has no anticipation, reading and have reaction times of dead elephants. Every 50:50 is taken by the opposition (except when it falls to Milner but he was in defence today, thankyou Millie).

Milner MOTM. Pretty unconvincing again, Fabinho and Firmino are both performing way below their actual levels of late and it’s harming us at both ends of the pitch. Did well to come back from behind in the first half faced with some abysmal officiating. In the second half we allowed the game to drift again and created very little. Relieved to get over the line, only three more wins to go now.

However, not convinced we are going to get past Atletico playing like this. We look suspect at the back and lacking a spark going forward. Can’t think of anybody in the side who’s really in any kind of form right now.

Anti climactic 3 points at home - service resumed. Good.

Better movement and uplink upfront. Better.

A hell lot more to do for Wednesday though. We're still not back to business suppressing counterattacks in midfield (without Hendo?) and ball retention on rebounds / 2nd balls still down as well. Pressing looked a bit hesitant half the time , oppo players were able to shield the ball to often , but at least the pressure was enough to restrict good balls up top.

For the nasty ATM we need Anfield at fire (was poor today) and the team pumped to grind Madrid down. Finishing needs to be clinical. Possible - but not convinced by today's showing...

Motm: Gini (by a mile) , Milner (that save) and Mo (for his work rate / fight) today.

Don;t really care about the performance now. We just have to be good enough to drag ourselves past the finishing line. Countdown to being champions of England once again.

Has Fabinho got to 5/10 at any instance since he came back in?
Some really poor play from him creating unforced pressure.
