Should have been punished in the first half, we're still not convincing and I don't think the team is where the coaches want them from last season, still loads of misplaced passes, low tempo, no pressure and lacking leadership and drive. Yet we're still top.

It's just weird, 9-3-0 and yet it doesn't feel as satisfying as it should be, it's because of our performances & other teams doing just as well.

really should have a ref option for motm because he turned the game for us . the first half was terrible against a really shit side. Bit better 2nd half and controlled the game better but nothing to write home about

I no longer expect nor believe the front three are just a single moment of fluid genius away from a breakthrough and return to last year. Even as the best of them, Salah frustrates me terribly with the randomness of his passing ideas. Mané needs to stick to some sort of matchplan rather than flash around in parts of the pitch where he can't create anything. Bobby needs to be given a new role by Klopp. He's adding very little in this false eight hole.

Will take it, it's weird though, 9-3-0 & there's a bit of frustration/concern there about our performances, that first half we would've been punished by a decent team.

Robertson MOM quite easily.
I think this is drastically overstated.

They had one goal from a set piece correctly ruled out for offside. They had another shot from the edge of the box that went close, and he got the shot off because a lucky break (9 times out of 10 Gomez would have swept up that chance with his covering run). They offered little and got less.

This was a game that even at its most frustrating looked like we have the guys on the pitch to get the goals we needed, and that's exactly how it played out.

I didn't think we played that well in the first half. Fulham gave us a hard time, so credit to them. We were much better in the 2nd half.

My stand out players were definitely Robertson and Shaquiri. I think Mane is having an off day at the office, but hopefully he will be back to his fire powering self. I am kind of worried about Firmino, but I hope he gets back to form and TAA needs to practice more, if he wants to be world class.

MOTM , it was hard between Robertson and Shaquiri, in the end I gave it to the powerful.

Well done Redmen!

ETA: not another international break, uff!

Salah was MOTM for me. Shaq, Robinson and VDV all had great games also. Firmino pretty good as well. Another win even if we were not at our best. We just have to keep winning our games and see what happens. Unprecedented territory here - hoping the blue shite and the scum get a result today. What's wrong with me!

And now for afternoon 'entertainment' hope the vrtons score or draw with chelski...and hope the mancs kick the s***t out of each other, have 2 or 3 men sent off each side...and the red 'UN's win...all said with a lump in my throat that's making me feel sick...

When they go down get Jurgen straight on the blower and buy that Sessegnon kid asap.

Poor first half. Much better second half.

It was a match where you can look to improve your goal difference but it doesn’t always work out that way. And their goalkeeper was possibly the difference between 2-0 and 4-0. He really did look impressive today.

Fabinho got better and better as the game wore on. Salah is not far off getting back to his best. Great play from Alisson for the breakaway goal. Sublime pass from Robbo for Shaqiri’s goal. Shaqiri MOTM by some distance. VvD excellent apart from a couple of shaky moments with Sessegnon who will seriously test most defences.

Mane, Bobby and TAA still not convincing but I’m reasonably happy with that performance and result today. 3 points. A clean sheet (just!). Improvements from some key players.

Oh and Klopp and Edwards need to snap up Sessegnon before anyone else does ....... whatever it takes ...... do it!

I found that to be a very "strange" game to watch
At home, after the mid-week loss - I expected us to come out guns a blazin' to prove to the world that we were taking nothing for granted and mesmerize the poor lads from Fulham
Instead = it seemed to be more of the same - complete control - but seemingly disconnected from what we came to love from this team last year
looked to have a hard time getting out of 3rd gear- and for the last 20 minutes didn't really seem like we wanted to get out of 3rd gear
and it was a little disconcerting to see us pretty well sliced open a couple of times at the back in the first half
love the result
but.....we seem to still be "adrift"...

I couldn't see dramatic improvement from the mid-week game either. It hurts like hell to write that. International break coming at the right time for once? I'm ambivalent about how it helps an adrift vessel, if the wind changes direction for a week.

Shaqiri makes a huge huge difference to our side, a certain must start player.

Comfortable for the most part minus a few lax in concentration moments.
It is something of an alarming puzzle that we need a player we did not have last year to look anything like what we did last year when attacking.

Definitely treading water. Something is not quite right - can't complain about getting 3 points and more time to work on it, but there has not been a game in nearly two months where we have just rolled.

I think we did though (Coutinho (1116 mins) / Oxlade (1485mins)), we started the season sluggish but once Coutinho started playing we kicked on and we got even better when Oxlade got more and more minutes (November onwards). Even when Coutinho left we had attacking threat from the 4.

Considering Coutinho had 7 goals and 6 assists in half a season, Oxlade got 3 goals and 7 assists in half a season.. I think we miss a "4th" as they give the space for our front 3 to operate properly and not get out marked, or drop deep etc.

I just think once we got that head of steam up our front 3 just couldn't not score, like the flip side of when you get nervous and mistakes happen we did the opposite half chances just went in.

Yes, it probably is that dynamic movement with the ball in the transition from the center of the field to the final third or so. I also think defences are playing Salah somewhat differently when he runs downfield to create space - you don't see a defender running alongside him nearly as often as last year, they seem more focused on keeping their shape to control him. That might also be a product of him playing more centrally.

30/36 points for the embarrassing reds, not good enough so far.
Well, when you are chasing what could be 32/36....but we are staying in touch through a difficult period, no need to break out the sackcloth and ashes just yet.

Job done. But we had a scare in the 1st half.
Yes 3 points is what that matters, however I wish we turn up and have a proper go like we did last season.
Few concerns regarding mane and firmino. Both have been anonymous, more so mane.
Fabinho looks promising and excited about shaqs who adds creativity to our mid.
The most convincing part of our game is our defence though.

Great game. Great result. It was a bit of a grind at the start but as you'd expect, opened up after we scored.

Without knowing how people have voted so far (though having a guess I imagine the fan favourites Shaq and Robbo are up there) my MOTM may be a bit of a weird one. TAA struggled at the start of the match. We have heard from his youth coaches that he was always a gifted kid and the only thing holding him back was when he got frustrated about not playing perfectly. He looked super frustrated early on and I was concerned he was going to do something stupid and get himself a yellow. But he calmed down as the game progressed and ended up making the pass that won us the match. Although many players would have been deserving today, he is the one that stuck in my head so TAA is my motm.

I think so, a lot of the movement from Shaqiri today was to operate in the pocket of space behind their midfield but in front of their defence. This meant a) Firmino wasn't doing that dropping deep and was a threat in the box and b) Salah/Mane could start to run the lines.. We had quite a few good chances from through/over the top balls from Shaqiri (to Salah mainly). One of our most potent threats last season was Salah running across the line from fullback to center half, it appears only Shaqiri can find that ball like others did last season.

And yes Salah is getting double teamed a lot, this is why having a 4th attacking option who forces a 4 man defence into decisions is vital to us becoming more potent again. Salah 1 v 1 is unstoppable, he is nulled 2 v 1, Firmino dropping deep (as he was before Shaqiri started to play) meant it was basically Mane v's 2 and Salah v's 2.. So we were asking far too much of both. Add in Shaqiri to do the working deep and Firmino is now free to make those runs (he's a freakishly intelligent player) taking defenders away from Salah/Mane giving them freedom to go 1 v 1 and it's no surprise we looked better today.

Were we brilliant? Not really but the signs were starting to appear. Their goalkeeper made 2-3 outstanding saves which if they had gone in actually were excellent pass and move chances. To me what I think what starts to show we are getting back to our attacking best is Mane/Robertson linking up and Robertson is able to play one twos with Mane to get into position for a good cross, this means Mane is able to play in the right place, he has space (from Firmino taking defenders off him), Robertson has space because the fullback is checking Mane etc. It was what was devastating last season, and I think the signs were there today.

Could Shaq replace Mane on that left hand side? i think Sadio needs a little bit of a rest and a reset.

3 points and top at the moment. Everything to be happy about, but I also wonder if we were a wee bit spoilt with last season's football. We seem to play with a ponderous attitude, and that gives the opposing teams a chance to play above themselves against us. One touch football is beautiful to watch, but we seem to take too many touches or worse still let the ball bounce away, instead of controlling it.
Hopefully we find our mojo soon. Also hope our neighbours do us a favour, and I cannot bring myself to want a manure win, so a draw would be acceptable.
