We got what we deserved. Too many mistakes and our midfieders looked scared and their passing was awful.
Salah and Mane not at their best, they had the chance to play vs. Danilo and Laporte /City's second choice fullbacks/ and did nothing.
Lovren was poor, Robertson had a very good game. VvD was solid as usual, Trent's man scored the winner.
Only 4 points ahead of them and the 17 games to play. It is all open.
Hopefully the absurd wankfest called ''we are the champions'' will finally stop. Everytime our fanbase start talking too much about number 19 and things don't go our way. Never learn, right...
Twenty minutes before the end it is 1-1 and we somehow let them counter attack us and score the winner. We had to hit them with the speed of Salah and Mane, instead we were too naive and they hit us.
This game reminds me so much of the loss in Paris.
Outplayed by a better midfield formation, Again Milner, Gini and Hendo struggled and were exposed. PSG scored goals with speed, because we left so mach space defensively /never mind that those 3 in midfield had to cover the holes/. Today the same happened with Sane's goal.
Now play the second team vs. fuckin Woves in FA Cup and get ready for a tough trip to Brighton in the league.

If his job is to be the metronome and just pop it off and keep the ball moving, then fine. But is there a reason why he spend most of his time demanding the ball, and then playing a safe pass. Call me old fashioned, but if I’m on the pitch and a lad is shouting ‘give me the ball’ he’d better have fucking spotted something.

There was one in the first half where he runs to Van Dijk with his arms out, asking for the call, which Virg gives him. And Hendo just gives him it straight back.

WHAT IS THE FUCKING POINT?
I am more irritated over his traffic directing act in the first half. Calling out his teammates to make runs but off the ball he was ball watching. Many might blame Lovren for our first, after all our centre half did switched himself off for a few seconds, but Henderson was there. Wijnaldum was out wide, and so was Trent. He was right there, and calling people to cover this and that, forgot about his own fucking duties to get in the box to stop the ball from coming in. Henderson needs to fucking buck up.... Fabinho has been a far more controlled midfielder who made his partners looked so much better in the middle of the park.

We win our next 16 games in the league we win the title! Time to show what you are made of. Still in our hands.
This sounds more like it.

If Sane's shot bounced out off the post or the ball travelled 1cm more then the vast majority of those calling us terrible today would be singing our praises. It is a result driven narrative.

Two good teams went at it in a tense game. Neither side was great, neither was terrible. City got the lucky bounces.

Just need a composed response in the coming games.

Tentative wank from us. Overawed by the occasion. The good news is we can do 1500% better. We must respond next PL game or you can expect the yips to set in. VVD the best we had out there. I'm still confident. Forget this and go again.
It's time we stopped getting overawed by these occasions now though. We have enough experience and have been playing like a team that doesn't get ruffled, so no need to drop nuts just because it's Man City in a big game.

At sometime we are going to have to forget about the so called safety net midfield trio of Hendo, Milly and Gini. It is too slow and ponderous and completely lacks creativity. Think we need to move on from that now. Gini too often controlling the ball, spinning in a 360 and by that time it's too late, City have men behind the ball. We need at least one attack minded player in midfield.

I thought TAA, Lovren and Gini were awful today, with Mane not too far behind. Can't expect Shaq to do much when he's only given about 15 minutes at the end of the game.

I'm just really disappointed with the way we played today.

I am disappointed but no beaten which is what I feel our squad felt.

1st thing I noted was how easily the pitch cut up, it was the worst pitch we have played on for a while. When you saw how City where playing it had to be deliberate to prevent our intricate play. (they were playing mid-long with very firm passes whilst we continued with our short often one touch play this made our game look approximative at best. We got it wrong we should have just gone long.
Still it was a match that could have gone either way and their 2 players (Aguero and Sané) made the difference whilst ours (Salah, Firmino (who actually did score) and Shaquiri (who came on too late)) didn't.
I would add that I thought Wijnaldum and Salah could have given more, this was a big difference as B. Silva and Sané were giving it thier all.

We're still ahead and played well enough, there wasn't really a lack of effort more a lack of precission and concidering the pitch that is to an extent explainable.

But fuck it we lost! :-(

Only loss in the league after 21 games is to the defending champions with highest point total in premier league era, at their home ground. Nothing to be ashamed about. Gomez is healthy, we win that game, not even playing our best.

Surely that is finally the end of Lovren. He just cannot be relied upon.

difference between pep and kloppo - pep took the risk of playing aging kompany in city's most important fixture of the season; kloppo chose to play conservative and picked the failed combo of gini-the former sunderland player-milner. it's a must win game for city but we could have built our lead to 10 points. sometimes, you just needed to be a bit maverick and take the necessary gamble...

Anyone have a good arguement for MOTM (for us)?
I haven't a clue all made errors all gave a good effort all I can say it can not be for Wijnaldum or Salah.

Great game, could have gone either way, a draw would have been a fair result. Fine margins decide games like that, and it fell their way. At 1-1 we were well on top, but we gave the ball away and it led to the counter they scored from. Just needed to play keep ball at that point. So many of their players were fucked in the last 10 minds, they gave everything.

Still 4 points ahead, now we need to make sure we start collecting 3 points again week in week out. They need to drop points again before us, or this will get too tense!

We really need a bit of streetwise shithousery in our game. Take the sting and flow out of the game at 1-1 and we would have seen it out.
A draw with us against 10 men for 70 minutes wouldn't have been likely so it can't be the fair result. That we lost is outrageous.

The game is decided by small margins. 11 mm and the ball was over the line. Another day Liverpool would not had two cleared off the line.

Unfortunately we have Lovren who is a fucking liability at times. When something goes wrong he has the mental fortitude of a lemming. Whilst you have players who had poor games (Henderson and Wijnaldum far too many square or backward balls) Lovren panics. It does not matter where he is on the pitch.

In a game of small margins, he is a handicap. The title race really is in the balance. Despite 4 point lead there is no favorites. Good news for us is that Gomez is nearly fit again for the run in.
Tbh, Henderson bothered me more than Lovren. He played just in front of the 2 CBs. Normally, I would assume the role of that player is to take the ball out of defence and move it up the pitch yet most of his passes went straight back to them putting pressure on them all through the game. He does great pressing work, I don't doubt that, but his work when we have possession is questionable imo. That said, perhaps that was a failure of the system (hard to tell just from watching on TV).

Fine margins but a rather tired looking performance. Voted for Robbo who l thought looked pretty lively. Allison did well on a few occasions and couldn't be blamed for the goals. VVD did well but was having to cover both CB positions at times.

Disappointing but we just have to move on. FA Cup weekend but we'll have to wait until Monday for our game. I may well watch the Spuds taking on the mighty Tranmere Rovers tomorrow night.

I don't think we really turned tonight and the encouraging thing is they were miles better than us.

Agree. We can close twice. Not to mention a clear red not given.
A bit of luck and we would have been 10 point's clear.

On a side note, really impressed with TAA tonight. Showed great determination and positivity when we went behind then it was his pass which setup the goal. Heard some pundits talking about how he could play a Gerrard role as he gets older the other day. Tonight for a few minutes I could totally see that.
Think the main problem of TAA is hes not an out and out defender! He needs a bit more physicality to him hes like a weed but he can ping a pass and cross a ball just needs to work on his defending!
