I find it odd that so many posters are expressing contempt for Southampton - I find their fan culture a bit odd, with their resentment of former players, but it has to be exasperating to see the way the club has farmed out talent. Of course VvD will get a little more than others.

But Hassenhuttl has done a phenomenal job there. Southampton were absolutely terrible under Mark Hughes, they looked like they were going down - they were looking up at Huddersfield. Since he came in, they are 7-3-8, points in more than half of the games played, and the only additional players have been promoted from their academy or returning loanees. We may have been a bit off-balance in the midfield, but that is also down to the fact that they came out hard and made it difficult to find the balance. Of course they could not keep up that intensity, they tired - however, many teams would have struggled to get back into the match in those circumstances. I think we do the LFC side a disservice by deriding Southampton. That was nothing close to a relegation-scrapping side.

With a couple of players this summer, I genuinely think they could be a top half side....and chairmen considering hiring Mark Hughes should take note.

Great comeback! Great to see Salah back to scoring and putting in such a sweet shot! Turns out Hendo is better further forward than at number 6. Keita has to improve on this performance by starting keeping the ball better and doing more runs into the box. Gini has to be rested for 3 matches at least.

Good day for all of us!

So what’s your feeling moving forward mate? It’s April and we’re top of the league and in the CL quarterfinals. This is not your first rodeo, hows it going to play out?
From early on this season I've said it felt like 2008/9 and we all know how that panned out. Surely though if we win all our remaining games this season we will win the title. Surely. 97 points and second place would be beyond cruel.

I just know that every single game from now on will be like last night's and the Spurs game and the Fulham game. Terrifying and exhausting. Even Huddersfield won't be straightforward. I haven't even thought about the CL. It seems relatively unimportant which shows what an incredible season we're having. If we ended up with nothing it would be a travesty after the effort these lads have put in.

Salah showed his quality there, getting criticised and the media pressurising him. It would of been easy to give the ball to Bobby incase he messed up but, no he took the risk and went for it. Shows he’s an out and out goal scorer, he knew the hate he would of got if he messed that up but he risked it all in hope for a award of the 3 points and the title hopes still alive. Gained respect for him there after my criticism of him in recent times.

I generally quite like Southampton, apart from when we play them.

What exactly are our club doing to us all? The last 20 mins Klopp's subs of Milner and Henderson made such a difference.

Salah's goal was a beauty!
There is so much in that Mo goal. I can't decide which part I want to watch. There's Mo's magic, of course. But the sprinting cavalry of Bobby and Hendo around him tell us all we need to know about the burning desire of this squad.

We've come a long way since Kiev.

And you should know by now that you never judge a player on one game, let alone one half.
You do in context for that one game!
A post match thread isn't there to discuss general matters rather for what happened in the match and what happened is reflected in my posts.
My overall views on captaincy and players is in the relative theads.

You made the (incorrect) assertion that Henderson is the only person fit to lead us. That is a general statement, not one specific to the match.

A comment that reflected on the match and VVD in one line.
Right: so you maintain that VVD isn’t fit to be club captain. That is simply not true. I’m not knocking Henderson- unlike many posters here, I think that he’s a good leader- but to say that only he is capable of captaining the side is plainly ludicrous.

I’m a new fan of the Reds from the USA. A friend of mine in Greece got me started this season as I also started disliking NFL Football because of the National Anthem issues. I was so thrilled seeing M. Salah score yesterday. The Reds played a great second half. I pray MC will lose or draw on one of their remaining games as Liverpool deserves to win the Premier League.

A bit late to the party but i have 3 points to say

1. I would like to thank Liverpool for yet again contributing to my high blood pressure in addition to all the smoking and drinking i do

2. For the Hendo haters out there, go f yourselves and while there have some humble pie

3. Mo Salah and Keita scoring has to have had Klopp screaming "VINDICATIONNNNN"

We're guaranteed a top 4 spot with this win. Hopefully after the Chelsea game we'll be guaranteed top 3 and Champions League.

Fourth gets an automatic CL place now.
Not if two teams outside top 4 win CL and EL, which is still possible in various combinations. Next week settles things completely if we win, irrespective what Arsenal do with their two games in hand, it won't be possible for both them and Spurs to get past us.

It is now crucial that we keep this winning momentum going..... wasn’t exactly super convincing like how City been playing, but we are stumbling across that finish line. Hopefully we get there ahead of City.

as much stick as hendo gets for not passing forward, gini is worse in this regard, and has hands for feet when he's striking the ball. he's also lacking in pace imo

hendo is better further forward--particularly on the right--and gini is better in the holding role. not what i expected when he signed from newcastle
