Happy new year Reds.

First game of 2020 against impressive Sheffield.

Line-Up depends on how Klopp wants to approach the FA Cup Derby on Sunday but at the moment I’m expecting a similar mix between seniors and kids like we had in the League Cup against Arsenal (for Sunday).

I reckon on the same starting line up, with Milner/Lallana/Origi coming on at some point in the game.
This is a tough match, but if we hit halfway between the Leicester match form and Wolves match resilience then we will keep the run going.
Plenty of opportunities in the FA Cup to give fringe or younger players a run out.

Can see this being another very tight affair, they were really unlucky at City and they don't lose very often so we've got our work cut out, a definite banana skin this, but we should edge it.

Friend is in charge of VAR and we all know he's no friend of ours so hoping we won't be focusing on VAR after the match.

Would get Keita on the pitch, probably in place of Lallana but Adam deserves another start after his performance last game, so maybe Gini and/or Hendo rested? They've played an awful lot of football recently.Wouldn't be surprised if Jurgen goes with Milner.

...................Becker............
Trent....Gomez...Virg... Robertson
.................. Milner.....................
.......Lallana........... Keita...........
Salah............ Firmino........Mane

1-0 Redmen.

Sheffield's defeat at City was their first away defeat all season. Another tough game for us. With all the injuries we have there aren't many obvious rotation options except Keita for Lallana, possibly Milner for one of the full backs or Henderson or Gini depending on their fitness. We did look massively weary towards the end of the Wolves game. Just tried to hold them at arm's length for the last 20 minutes or so which at least we can now do with the Gomez and VVD partnership restored. I see a similar approach here. Try to get ahead with a fast start and then conserve energy later.

There will have to be big changes for the Cup game so this may be the last game a lot of these players will play for a full 9 days. I don't think this will be a pretty performance. The result is everything here.

Players looked tired against Wolves, so some rotation necessary. But only a few - we can make wholesale changes for the Cup game.

Alisson
Trent Gomez Van Dijk Robbo
Henderson
Wijnaldum Keita
Mane Firmino Origi

Another tough game I think, shame we didn’t put away some of our early chances against wolves and it will be the same here, put our chances away and avoid all the nervous tension as the game goes on, must be time to give Origi another start and play Milner for HENDERSON, typical Shaqiri injured again when needed, I watched some of Sheffield v shitty they got at city defence a few times but never tested the keeper at all, so looking forward to a comfortable win and another 3 points.:LOL::LOL:

Managed to get 3 separate tickets for this one - so me and 2 kids all going.
2 seats in main stand, and the other in the Kenny Stand.

Wolves was a tough one - and this one could also be like that.

Sheffield are the best "United" in the league at the moment. They will be well organised and tough to break down. Jurgen will sort the team, but we will be needed to 'will' the team over the line.

2019 is done, lets start 2020 with a bang!

Given the injury situation, there can be no whats, buts or ifs: the FA cup must be 'sacrificed' (meaning: lining up a lot of youngsters and squaddies), and a full first team played for this one. We are now in the midst of our toughest run of league games in this season, and another win would be just absolutely sensational...

I don't expect any champagne football for this one (the 4-0 at Leicester was a bit of a one-off, probably the adrenalin still running through the players' veins after the lifting of the latest trophy). Sheffield are a tough proposition. We saw it in the reverse fixture, and surprisingly, they haven't shown any weakness since then. On the contrary, they are even stronger and PL-weathered than they were then. They were unlucky to lose at Man City, so don't expect them to roll over to us.

If our lads can win again, it will be an incredible achievement. We've started to dovetail a bit now. Our lads showed against Wolves that they are mere human beings, and not immune to fatigue, loss of form and others. They still managed to get the three points over the line, which was really fantastic given that they were dominated throughout the second half and had in fact no right to win that game. A massive bonus.

Hopefully Sheffield will be tired down a bit by their game at Abu Dhabi the other day, and losing that game might have dented their confidence a little bit, just like it happened for Leicester. Fingers crossed for that. It won't be easy anyway.

Anyone knows which ref is in charge of that game?

A really good passing side from what I have seen. A good defensive record. Gave city a hard game.

Liverpool need at least 1 touch and move midfielder, preferably two. I think this is necessary in order to break through the defense, especially if Andy and Trent are targeted.

Code:
      Alisson
Trent Joe Virgil Andy
          Gini
       Adam Naby
    Mo Bobby Sadio
Seeing as I have not seen any Bobby no look goals this season, I will now attempt for the first time in TIA history, a no look Premier league form guide for Liverpools last 10 games:

WWWWWWWWWW

5-0 because we are Liverpool.

Think Wijnaldum gets the start he was 3 weeks out with an injury.

Another tough game against a well organized team. The good thing is we play at Anfield.
Play our strongest team and rotate in the fa cup. There are some tough games coming up so win this
and we can afford to drop some points against United, city, chelsky.

4 days rest should mean JK asking the lads to go one more time before a few of them get a well earned rest for 9 days. I can't imagine there's any one of them that isn't desperate to play and help us get another 3 points.

Usual back 4. Keita, Gini and either Milner or Hendo in midfield. Usual front 3.

Would be nice to get a good lead by the hour so we can rest a few legs but it never seems to work out like that for us. I think if we score twice (twice!!) then we win.

Awwww its Thursday?

Back to work day for me boooooooooooo
Same here. First time I will have worked on 2nd January for about 25 years. One of my German colleagues asked why Scotland has two public holidays for New Year so I told them it is down to alcoholism.

Anyway, this is something to look forward to. I suspect that we will go mostly full strength and rotate for the cup game on Sunday. Just looking for a no nonsense 3 pointer to ease me back into the new year.

I'd rotate for this and not the FA cup (I fancy us very strongly for it this year) and we don't want to miss out on either of the two remaining cup competitions. 13 games for double cup glory and hopefully fewer for the league?!

Kind of sad this isn't today.

I'm feeling it's the kind of game that will be tough going and probably decided by a moment of magic. They'll push us all the way, but as long as we don't rotate too much we should have someone on the pitch who can help us start the new year as we finished the last.
