I would go with

Flanagan/McLaughlin - Carra - Coates - Robinson
.................................Henderson - Sahin
.......................................Suso
..........................Downing - Ngoo - Assaidi

I know we will never see that though.

Not very optimistic about this game, I have a feeling that Suarez/Gerrard and co wont even board the plane. A result in this match will fall on our youngsters

If we start Allen again, then Rodgers need to relook at his mantra of trusting players. He needs to stray away from the player he knows, and do what he really knows - educating and coaching those others to play the way he wants them to. I may not be the biggest Henderson fan, but I think he needs to start against Anzhi in the middle instead of Allen who clearly needs a bit of time off.

Allen shouldn't play. Not because his performances haven't been good (they've been lacking a bit) but because he looks dog tired

I would definitely go with a very reserve team for this one.

McLaughlin - Carra - Coates - Robinson
.................................Henderson - Sahin
.......................................Suso
..........................Downing - Yesil - Assaidi

I think Flanno is still injured.

Yeah I think if this was at home we could expect the top players, because it isn't I expect half won't even board the plane, it's an away tie for both teams mind. Would like to see Morgan, Yesil and Pancheo be given a chance.

I definitely want to see Pacheco out there. I do not want to see Suarez traveling at all.

My team (assuming Flanno, Doni/Reina are all back and ready to go):

-----------------------Doni/Reina-----------------------
--Flanno-------Carra-------Coates-------Robinson--
--------------Henderson-----Shelvey------------------
---Downing-------------Suso----------------Assaidi---
------------------------Pacheco-------------------------

Subs: Jones, Yesil, Sterling, Skrtel, Enrique, Sinclair, Sahin

Want to see Pacheco given a shot up front as the false 9. He has very good workrate and his interplay is not too bad. I'm not sure Yesil is ready for the jump up. I also want to see given a chance in the supporting role. Two fast paced wingers in Downing and Assaidi should offer some decent support. Defence picks itself and the two holding midfielders are simply the two that haven't been playing much lately.

Sterling and Sinclair on the bench to offer the option of pace. Skrtel, Enrique and Sahin on the bench as well to offer some first-team support if necessary.

No chance that Suarez, Gerrard, Suso, Sterling or Wisdom should play. We are way too thin in those areas and we've got to go to the bridge next week.

We should definitely use the squad players. Carragher, Coates, Downing, Cole, Henderson, Pacheco, Morgan, Yesil should all start.

Don't want to see Gerrard, Suarez, Sterling, Allen and the centre backs anywhere near this.

------------------------Jones-------------------
McLaughlin-Carragher-Coates-Enrique
----------------------Henderson---------------
-------------------Cole------Pacheco
----------Morgan-----Yesil-----Downing----

Would be an understatement to say I don't give a shit about this.

Hm Mascott, I'm not so sure we should discount this match.

This may be our best chance to maintain some hope for short term success.

Imaging we lose and we end up not qualifying.

Remember that long term plans can only be implemented when there's sufficient backing of the vision. If we end up out of Europe, a-la Capital 1 cup, I would expect the owners to think twice about Brendan. Especially if we end up worse than 8th in the league too.

Sadly winning this competition may be our only route back into Europe. Still expect Brendan to go with a reserve team with Henderson, Cole, Carragher, Downing and kids featuring heavily.

Expect to see Rodgers maintain his preferred option of leaving the main stars at home to rest for the away ties for now, if the kids/reserves can get anything in this game we have practically qualified and if we don't we can still qualify if we beat Young Boys and get something out of Udi away. If it gets to that we can send the heavy hitters to Italy with a "do not lose" brief to qualify from group. For this game the team I think is most likely is:

--------------------Gulacsi------------------
McLaughlin-Carra-Coates-Robinson
------------------Henderson---------------
-----------------------Shelvey--------------
---------------Pacheco---------------------
Downing-------Yesil-------------Assaidi

Bench: Jones/Reina(if fit), Wilson, Sama, Coady, Sahin, Cole, Morgan.

Usually completely wrong though!

Tough call, Cole is bloody useless, Hendo still looks like an 11 year old and some of the kids are too young, but we don't want to get knocked out of this competition so going for a 4-3-3

*****************Pepe****************
Flanno***Carra***Coates***Jose
***Allen***Shelvey*****Downing/Hendo
***Hendo/Downing***Suarez***Assaidi****
Subs: Sterling, Wisdom, Wilson,Stevie, Morgan, Pachecco

Weather forecast: showers, temperature between 0° and 5°. Less terrible than I'd have thought... the pitch should be ok...

I pretty much agree with your thinking although i would select a team with a goalie :p

This game will be a brilliant experience for some of the less experienced lads.

We will do really well to come away with a point though. I think the likes of Allen, Suarez and Stevie, Skrtel and DAgger need a rest, i would leave them behind to give ourselves a better chance at Stamford Bridge.

My preferred lineup:

Doni
Carra-Coates-Skrtel
Henderson----------------Robinson
Sahin-Shelvey-Suso
Downing-Yesil-Assaidi

a 3-5-2 with Henderson as a wide midfielder and Robinson as a wing back.

Probable Rodgers' selection:

Jones
Henderson-Carra-Coates-Robinson
Allen
Sahin-Shelvey
Downing-Yesil-Assaidi

Unfortunately, even though we have a chance to beat this team and almost guarantee 1st place, I think BR will first select his Sunday team against Chelsea.

So since even mum can forecast Brendan's PL starting 11 (almost regardless of who our opponent is), I forecast this line up

-------Pepe or Doni (whoever is able to play)
McLaughlin-Carra-Coates-Robinson
------------------Henderson---------------
-------------------Shelvey------------------
----------------------Cole-------------------
Downing---------Morgan------------Assaidi

Oh, and we have a tremendous opportunity against Chelsea as if they don't win on Wednesday, they'll risk holding onto their trophy by a country mile. They are 3 points behind their in-form opponents (Shaktar Donetsk) and have a few injured players. Di Mateo's got a bit of a problem this week and all month, with Juve waiting in 2 weeks.

This is our chance to rest all our starters...even though I really wish we wouldn't and have a chance to win this against Anzhi.

PS: I can't wait for folks to throw rocks at my "Cole" insertion. I say, make him travel out East and make him play in the cold

.........................Jones............................
Wisdom...Coates....Carra.....enrique
............Jonjo.......Hendo.......Suso....
.......downing...........................Assaidi......
.......................Yesil.........................
Bench:
GK, agger,sterling,allen,cole,skrtel,morgan, coady

Get a draw. Move on.
More important game at the bridge in the weekend.
i expect a 1-1 draw. jonjo scoring for us.

for once i wont mind a proper 4-4-2. Throw in morgan and yesil, who knows one might cover up for the other.

I reckon Rodgers went all out for the win against these at home because he knew we'd be unlikely to get them away, so can see thie being a reserve side. Would like to see Pacheco and Yesil involved. A point would be decent enough.
