Super Cup, Charity Shield and Club World Cup

The last time we had to compete in the club world cup was in 2006. We were treated unfairly by FIFA in my estimation.
In addition, the charity shield and super cup are glorified friendlies that have some practical value in a sense that we see how we stack up against other top teams.

Super cup: Chelsea
Charity Shield: Man City

My question is: Could Klopp send a delegate and a second string squad to the Club World Cup?
Also, is this cup relevant in the grand scheme of things?

Thanks, Nadeem

According to Liverpool Echo the Community Shield will be thursday August 1st.
Think it's very likely that we will be without Alisson, Firmino, Salah, Mané and Keita because of Africa Cup and Copa America.

Also, Alisson, Firmino, Salah and Mané had the World Cup last year, then the long 18/19 season and now Copa/AFCON.

Klopp might be looking to give them a break or bench them at least at the Club World Cup.

But the Qataris won't be happy to see the Arab main attraction Mo Salah sitting on the bench.

I think we will use all the star players but maybe not all at once and probably sub them off where possible.

Our U23s are more than capable of beating any team in that competition outside of the South American champions.

Oh FFS, the hits, they just keep on coming. Should move the AFCON to the winter...

Well, if City consider the Charity Shield part of the “quad”, we have a chance of winning a “treble” before Christmas.
Loved 2001 when we won the quintuple :well done:

Couldn't give a toss about all 3, especially the Club World Cup. After seeing us disregard the FA & League Cup in recent seasons I'd be a bit annoyed if we went full throttle to win a big Toyota key in front of slavemasters in the desert. Not even arsed if we haven't won it, a lot of people (including myself) haven't seen us win the league so I'd rather we focus on that

Liverpool will play two games in the Club World Cup no matter the results. We should be winning it though. A chance to add another trophy and one the club hasn't won yet. Add in the extra prize money as well by winning, on top off just being part of the competition.

Ideally we win all three competitions.

Don't get me wrong of course I'd like to see us win it but I'd be happy if we played both games with our second string. Would even go as far as leaving some of the key players at home, depending on what reinforcements we buy in the summer we'd still have a very good chance of winning it even with our second team.

I think people are just prioritizing a bit more than we should because we haven't won it. I seen a post on Twitter asking our fans what they'd prefer to win - WCC or FA Cup & the majority were saying WCC! Madness!

To win the FA cup you play 7 games, 3 of which are against top opposition. WCC 2 games, 1 of which is a top game. The merit of each win is clear to see. Some fans see it differently. Beating City for the Charity shield in August is about as significant for our pre-season as beating United was in Michigan last year. It's a trophy you'd be embarrassed to mention as Klopp's first for the club. Thank heavens we don't have to.

Charity Shield is a crap trophy, but I want us to approach that game against City as serious as possible. Could be important mentally. European Super Cup is more important. And the Club World Cup we never won. Sao Paulo from 2005 still hurts, it always will. So... beat City just to beat them (we failed to get a win against them last season) and win the other two trophies. Extra special to beat Chelsea in a European game.

Whoosh.
I’m guessing city will have players missing as well but still. I forgot how disrupted our pre season might end up being.
I wonder if Karius could start at Wembley? Mignolet will probably already have left and maybe Klopp sees Karius as a number two...who knows.
But with our front three missing for that game, thank the good lord we have origi.

Nations League bullshit - which of our players are involved and how long will they be away?

We need to be playing our strongest possible 11 in all these games and be going all out to lift them all.

Sure there will be no parades for any of these comps, but would be so satisfying to go from Klopp has lost his last 6 finals to Klopp has won his last 4 all in just 6 months.

Lifting trophies is what LFC is all about, these are the next 3 we can win so let's go for them all and show to everyone we are never gonna stop !!!

As a regular watcher of Asian football and part time watcher of North American football, I think you've probably underestimated the level of ability of the Africa, Asian and North American champions and probably over estimate the ability of the U23s'. Its well known that the intensity of the U23's is lacking and there is some serious money and quality these days in the other confederations. Particularly Asia. With that said, our first team and some fringe players like Shaqiri, Lovren etc are more than capable of disposing of them. I really want to win this. The loss in 2005 has irrationally annoyed me for 14 years.

I don't care so much about the Super Cup, but I feel the Charity Shield has a little more importance this year. It would be nice to have a solid win before the season against the likely favourites. A bit of a psychological battle.

Wasn’t there something about the manager there not wanting him or something to do with wages?

I can see where they're coming from. Worldwide, the WCC is a lot more prestigious than the FA Cup and of course it's something we've never won. It'll take two games to win it and in the first of the two we can play a team of squad players and youngsters. It'll be something else City have never won but we have. We can leave the minor domestic cups to the clubs that specialize in them. We only go for the big stuff!

Considering we'd won 1 trophy in 12 years up until Saturday (which happened to be a "minor domestic cup") I wouldn't be turning my nose up at the FA Cup or the League Cup. Winners of the FA cup since 2015 have been Arsenal, United, Arsenal, Chelsea & City. League Cup is City, City, United, City & Chelsea, so all of the other top teams in the league seem to be taking them seriously.

In my opinion there's 4 honours you can win during a season - The League, the European Cup/Uefa Cup, the FA Cup & the League Cup. Anything else is a glorified friendly
