The other Fox Sports channels were already scheduled to show college basketball or Bundesliga. Pretty poor planning.

Fox Deportes will be showing the game, however.
Brilliant. Found it. Thank you. Of course, I keep saying Fox Deportes and my remote wouldn’t recognize it. So my wife says “Fox Sports in Spanish” and I roll my eyes to suggest that will never work. It works.

I was perplexed at this as well. FS2 showing the 3rd Place match, but not the Final. Now uncertain whether the pub has Fox Deportes, and I do not have it at my house. Panic!

I commented on this in the US TV thread. It's a farce. They already had prior scheduling committed to FS2 and FS Plus and so just binned the final. Even ignoring that it's pathetic to put those two things ahead of this game, there are plenty of other Fox based platforms they could have put this on. Honestly, doing this should disqualify them from bidding on further contracts.

I dont think they're particularly physical. However, they dont mind a bit of play acting or tactical fouls. We also have to take into account that the officials will be from different leagues and continents, so they uphold a different standard for fouls. It does have the potential to upset our rhythm.

These are different obstacles that we will have to overcome that we are not use to. I believe we will overcome them though.
I'm not sure who this poster is, but he was pretty damn accurate with his pre-match assessment

In all seriousness, I think our Yank redmen also called this. They've seen this on a yearly basis in the CONCACAF champions league. As an Aussie living in the US, i've begun to see it myself. Similarly, Australian sides faces the same tactics and obstacles playing in the Asian Champions League.

There are also other obstacles that Europeans clubs don't have to deal with, such as vast variety in weather (i.e dry Middle Eastern deserts, south-east Asian humidity, snow in Japan and Korea) security and safety threats, and different standards of officiating.

Football is very much a reflection of culture. The way Monterry played today would not be considered unsportsmanlike like in the majority of countries around the world, but to Western nations like America, Australia and the UK, it was poor form and very frustrating.

Additionally, sides like Monterrey, Flamengo, Al Hilal etc are far better than many myopic English and European fans realize.

All these factors put together can make it difficult for European sides. See Madrid's history of results in this tournament, as well as our own.

I'm surprised so much is being made of the referee, anyone who has seen these sort of games must know that the officials are usually well below par.

I remember back in '05 when we played Sao Paulo in Tokyo, the hapless ref was completely out of his depth - as were his linesmen.
