Speaking of terrible posts....

Would you like to expand and elaborate more on which point you disagree with?

I really don't see how Karius is debatable. He has had a torrid season in Turkey on the back of his poor season at Liverpool. The quality just isn't there.

The verdict is still well and truly out for Keita in my opinion. As I said in my original post, he has had some good performances among some really poor ones. After just one season, its probably too early to make any conclusive judgement on his signing. But for 50-60 million, I expected a hell of a lot more even in this inflated transfer market.
You can recall the last 20 years or so and yet you don't think it's debatable that Karius is one of the worst players you've ever seen play for Liverpool? Just in terms of keepers you think he's worse than Bogdan, both the Jones', Cavalieri etc?

Happily.

Klopp has had a few nightmares? Well if we include Karius (who cost about 5 or 6 million quid) which I wouldn´t disagree on, it´s one nightmare. Being a bit demanding aren´t you? Expecting a 100% success rate in the transfer market?

Keita had to deal with a lot of injuries. First season. when he was fit had a really promising last few games, scored some important goals so far from a nightmare.

Anything else you´d like me to expand on?
Did I say I expect managers to have 100% success rate? The topic is on poor signings and Karius is right up there for me. The likes of Ferri and Kippe were signed for approximately 1.5 and 0.7 million pounds respectively, yet they have been frequently mentioned in this thread.

I don't recall too many promising displays early on. For the first 6 months of his LFC career, his only significant contribution was a a nice turn against Crystal Palace in the 2nd match of the season. A moment his defenders used to defend him on numerous occasions.

I agree he showed more promising signs from late March onward. Keitas goal against Saints was huge, but it also came just after playing a huge part in conceding the first goal. He also scored against Huddersfield but I cant remember another goal. I am hoping it is a sign of things to come.

I genuinely have Karius below all those mentioned. Although I cant actually recall a Bogdan match off the top of my head. They were also signed to be clear number 2

Ah ok, not being able to recall other players explains it.

How is the bolded bit relevant?

I recall Bogdan, just not a specific Liverpool match. I actually rated him when he played for Bolton. Judging my your constant defense of Karius in this thread, I am guessing you're a fan.

Its not relevant in terms of ability, but its relevant in terms of successful signings, as number 2's are generally accepted as being a little rough.

Had to double check the title of this thread as your answer made me think I'd stumbled into the one for worst ever signings.

You asked me to elaborate.

You said Klopp's had a few nightmares. That's not true is it. It's one nightmare. It has cost peanuts as opposed other manager's nightmares which cost a pretty penny or two. By definition of not expecting one nightmare you are expecting a 100% success rate.

Keita - I didn't mention his early performances. He scored the first or second against Porto. Was looking really good till his season was finished by a dirty tackle. Even if we judge his LFC career up to now, he's no way a worst player to play for us contender.

Well that's the issue I guess. There will always be that one unforgettable infamous Karius performance and the two or three games where he did his job better than we could imagine Migs doing it are forgotten. I'm sure Bogdan's 3 League Cup games in 2015-16 were statistically good, he had a clean sheet 1 conceded to Carlisle that has surely been forgotten, but Sadio's first minute goal against us was pretty memorable. He let two in against Exeter in the Cup and 4 goals got past him in his two league games.
Playing musical statues a yard from his line
with an awful attempt to get down for the save:

Has to be Joe Cole. Lot was expected from him, for him though it was a retirement home just to make his wallet fat.
Was genuinely excited when we signed him.
Closely followed by jovanic.

Some posters still struggling to comprehend the difference between players who had a few bad games, players who are inconsistent and players who could genuinely be considered the worst player they ever saw play for us.
That might come down to the 'ever saw' bit I admit in the past I saw fewer games add to that some players didn't play many games then if tou saw a player once in a game where he was terrible then that tends to stick.
I also have a tendancy to pick out players I consider didn't make enough effort or have enoufgh vision. Technically they could have been good even great but just contributed so little or just appeared to be sooo selfish. Players that fall into that bracket for me are Wijnaldum and Coutinho (even if Coutinho looked fantastic his 1st season he really dropped off after that.

For the sake of unity, I suggest we compare the season prior to Naby's first for us, namely Emré's last. Emré had five seasons at a guess, to develop to the same level of potency and unfortunately injury propensity as Naby achieved in a year. Naby's clearly a greater talent on the ball and injury-free will claim approximately the same number of games per season as Çan did, but in a significantly better team overall.
Selective memory and crystal ball analogy all in one post. Well done. :J

Did Bogdan ever play for Bolton, even if he did I can not imagine how a LFC supporter could end up rating him from his time at Bolton. We did see Karius qiute a bit and he was the worst first choice keeper I have seen play for LFC!
I can imagine why Mignolet was annoyed yet can accept the Alisson situation.

From what we saw he's close.
The only time he looked effective he was off after 20 minutes. To translate that to looking really good is revisionism!

139 appearances for Gini in 3 years for us. 2 CL finals. 3 CL semi-final goals.

He's not the most dynamic player on the ball, and he could easily be better with some more 'arrogance', but he has still been an excellent buy for us. Work rate is second to none and he never shirks his defensive duties.

However he has a tendancy to go missing. Which is contradictary to the idea of work rate and carrying out defensive duties.
As I said in my 1st reply this is what I don't like about him (and a few other aspects) yet as we saw this season he can be more consistent than he has shown most of his carreer here and even be decisive when angry. Even so his performance against Southampton was really poor and made Henderson's entry even more telling than it should have been.

I've watched him live countless times, he always works hard with no exceptions.

I admit me never stops jogging but in the matches where he goes missing that jogging is completely aimless. Aimlessly working hard just isn't productive.

He played more for Bolton than any other club. He made 104 appearances and even got their player of the year award.

Karius did more for us that most players mentioned here. He won’t be remembered fondly, but not should he be considered the worst.

In fact, it says a great deal about the paucity of keepers that we’ve had, but from the last twenty years I’d only really put Reina, Westerveld and maybe Dudek above him.

If this thread has morphed into ‘players I thought would be great, but werent’, for me it’s Morientes. Thought you would be brilliant.

*cough* Alisson

Agree with you on Morientes. Another for me was Babel.

Bolton were regulars in the premier league for a few years there. He got their player of the year when they were in the premier league.

Side note, I do watch a fair bit of the championship. Probably one of the most enjoyable leagues in the world to watch as a neutral.
