Canos is a werid one, he has stagnated a bit but still does look miles above his team mates every time I have seen him. Must be an environment type player as he didn't break through at Norwich. I feel he could probably play at a lower PL level, will he ever go that way who knows, 22 is still young, he isn't going be the next Messi but he has time to develop.
You look at who he had to get past in the starting lineup, and then think about the last time a young player broke into the squad in the last 10 years. 15 years?

This is a tough nut to crack, this club. Maybe 2012/13 Canos would have had a shot at it had he been old enough) but we are bringing in world class players now. Kids coming into this academy now are looking at us for the training and opportunities which would come at Kirkby when they will be with the first squad...

Just my opinion, don't roast me too bad.

I remember that youth team with Pacheco, Suso, Morgan, Plessis etc. Adam Morgan’s name always seemed to be brought up whenever we had injuries to strikers, but it just never worked out for him. Damien Plessis also looked boss against Arsenal at the Emirates, and then barely featured again.

A name I haven't seen mentioned is Nabil El Zhar, was talented and has went on to have a decent career in La Liga mostly I think, scored the winner v Barca a few years back.

Be cool to have a poll up:

(Says the person that came to this thread too late and just wants to name all the people that have already been named.)

But mostly. Dani Pacheco. Thought he’d basically have David Silva’s career.

Just read that Samed Yesil has been released from his contract after playing just 10 minutes in 2 games last season. He’s still only 25. Astonishing that his career has come to an end. I had very high hopes for him when he was with us.

Le Tallec and Pongolle for me - they were hyped to almost have ZZ / Henry type potential.

Also remember Steven Gerrard playing alongside Davie Thompson in a 4-1 v Coventry and thought they'd both be stars..

Hopefully won't be adding Brewster to the list in a couple of years: thought he'd do more against MK Dons and wonder how many minutes he will end up getting this season.

Why this thread? The day after two youth players debut for us and give performances that are worth getting hyped for?

Raheem Stirling.

After his breakthrough season in 13/14 I thought he was going to be a superstar. I wonder what ever happened to him

I think his career (with us at least) was derailed quite a fair bit by multiple ligament injuries? He barely ever played for our U21 team, a result of doing his ACL in multiple times.

Not based off any appearances, just feel he will not make it at the club
To be honest, it would be tough for any young forward to break into our first team as long as Salah, Mané and Firmino are still here.

On one hand, Klopp's reliance on them is entirely justified (and explains why the likes of Origi, Shaq and Lallana haven't been able to get a good run of games). On the other hand, though, it's a bit of a shame that players such as Harry Wilson, Brewster and Duncan are likely to leave in search of first team football sooner or later. I guess you could see it as a win-win situation whereby if they make it (RIP Bobby Duncan) they must be truly exceptional; if they don't, we should at least get a Solanke-level transfer fee for them.

To be fair, very few of the youngsters will make it. Elliott was incredibly impressive the other night against MK Dons. But it wouldn't surprise me if in seven years he's playing for a mid-table Premier League team. To be an attacking player in a team competing for the league and Champions League, you'll need to be world class.

The current players at least seem better than crops of the past. It was always pretty standard to have a load of youngsters spend most of their first 5 years as a professional either out on loan, or getting us knocked out the league cup, and repeat every year until they're about 23 and we still have it in our heads that they're 'youngsters'.

Gabriel Paletta - Full Italian international; played for Parma, Milan and Atalanta before winding down in China.

Mikel San Jose - Full Spanish international and a consistently good player for 10 years in La Liga

Sebastian Leto - Was deputy captain for Panathinaikos for two years before leaving for Catania where he injured himself by dropping a barbell on his head. Went back to Pana only to then sue them for unpaid wages.

Sebastian Coates - Ended up being a star on loan at Sunderland, then terrible when he signed perm. Went to Portugal, Sporting CP, and has been a regular for Club and Country.

Lauri Dalle Valle - Retired at 26 to open up a photography business.

Krisztian Nemeth - Bounced around Europe before finding his way to the MLS where he has become a bit of a legend over two spells for Sporting Kansas City.

Dani Pacheco - Seems to be on a mission to play for every Segunda team.

Damien Plessis - Has been pretty much terrible everywhere he has gone since leaving Liverpool. Last seen failing to get a game for Orebro in Sweden.

Daniel Ayala - He has had a great career in the Championship. Now a mainstay for a decent Middlesbrough team.

There was a young DM in 2008 who was quite good but ended up going france

That was a quite a random bunch of players we had in the 2000s/2010s.

I was a regular reader of TIA’s forums. But I rarely post though

I like the defensive players more though, but I remember dalle valle and nemeth were quite hyped up

Dean Bouzanis Thought we got a world class young keeper finally :(
Kacaliniknic (hodgson gave him a away for konchesky and he was a full sweden international and on a upward trajectory would have been worth money in the market )
Nemeth and Dale Valle next aguero and fowler apparently :(
Also rated Ilori thought he could be gomez and varane hybrid lol
