We discuss about someone who will reach 7'0 and be 1 head (or more) higher than Matip.
And the problem is???
First... you don't know he's going to be 7' tall. He might stop growing... or maybe he'll hit 7'2.
Right now he's around 6'3"-6'4"... and I'm fine if we have a player of that size... assuming he has the skills to play.
At that point, size helps in certain positions.
If he has the talent... then that's great.
At the age of 15?
Yes. Or he might not. You don't know.
more likely that he's done growing than that he'll grow another six inches. 6'7 is probably the high end of reasonable expectations
the way basketball prospects are evaluated/projected is somewhat instructive as a reference. the elite kids in the 6'4 to 6'6 range are overwhelmingly guards. the 4s and 5s (the taller guys who play inside) are in the vast majority of instances 6'8 or taller when they enter high school
among one site's top ten players in the class of 2019 (kids who should be around 15 now), there's two 6'10 kids, a 7'0 kid, a 7'1 kid, and two 6'9 kids. nobody expects any of them to be 7'4 as adults
I had a mate at school who was about 6ft when we were 12! He was like a man! We went our separate ways aged 16 and I didn't see him again til I was about 24 when I randomly met him at the bar in a boozer. I was the same size as him! He said he stopped growing when he left school!
Anything is possible!
Altough a 7ft centre back with the ball playing skills of a Peter Crouch would be awesome!
Dear christ no. I've not yet recovered by the incessant bleating about having a centre back that "looks awkward" despite every statistic proving otherwise. I can see it now...
"OMFG Obi is playing. He terrifies me. Every tackle looks so awkward"
"Not Obi again - can't we get someone reliable?"
"FFS look at Obi there, feel like he's going to fall over at some point."
Crouch is a striker, isn't he?
How helpful could striker skills be for defending?
Crouchie looked like a new born giraffe, but he had the feet and touch of a 5ft 7inch number 10. He looked like he shouldn't be able to walk, but the fella had skills!
Is there a Crouch thread in the archives that needs to be dusted off or Youtube channel that one should be directed to?
More importantly for my curiosity, what is Obi's jump height, has he had any injuries that required pins that will need removing and when removed will his "growth rate" be affected?
We just discussed it in another thread.
IF he is 7''0 oneday he doesn't need jump height.
By the way, there are problems regarding visa:
Thank you for the info.
My bad, it's hard for me to keep up with one topic across multiple threads.
Blimey he needs a visa to move from Bury? Brexit gone too far!
He is from Nigeria, isn't he?
By the way, Bury is in Manchester area, the funny thing is Klopp has stolen Mourinho and Guardiola an young talent.
It has been known.
Man City signing of Liverpool goalkeeper investigated by Premier League
The Premier League are investigating the manner in which Manchester City signed young goalkeeper Louie Moulden from Liverpool last summer.
The Reds were unhappy about the loss of the highly-rated under-15 shot-stopper at the end of last season.
Wow a £25,000 fine. that will really put man city off from illegally poaching youth players from other category 1academies
Not legit source, of course, but the Mirror is reporting that we've agreed a £150k deal for 15yo Jack Bearne from Notts County... who apparently need money urgently.
Other than saying he is a "whizz kid", there's no mention of what position he plays, unfortunately.
There's an article on the main site about this, apparently he's a forward and described as the biggest talent in the country at that age.
Nice, cheers, hadn't seen that. Will check it out.
Seems he's a Red now:
Hopefully he fares better than Trickett-Smith, I remember that he also announced his signing for Liverpool by taking a picture with Kenny.
@Nikola, fella a bloody Chelsea fan isn't he?
Doesn't really matter though.
His twitter account seems to have gone mad. Had 80-odd followers when I looked at it 10 minutes ago, it's on 172 now and counting, goes up every time I refresh.
Edit edit: 197...
Such bunch of sad fuckers we Liverpool fans are....
Who is this Cian Harries fella we have taken on trial from Coventry. Apparently impressed in an under 23 game for us, a confident ball playing defender
Anyone know more
Very highly rated and as you said class on the ball, I've a mate who's a scout in the lower leagues and he said all he needs is to fill out a little bit. He spoke to Tony Mowbray about him and he was very complimentary about his talent
News is now out that we are under investigation for potentially breaching rules regarding youth transfers. The situation is a bit of a fuck-up but as I understand it the club agreed to honour the schooling arrangements the player had with Stoke but then the rules changed. The club took advice from the PL and was told that if it honoured their agreement with the player/player's parents it would be in breach. Understandably, the club had to pull out of the deal.
I don't think the club have done anything wrong here in terms of PL rules. We'll have to see what comes out but it's not a great situation for the player and his family.
So the PL enact a rule that prevents us following through with a commitment, so we comply with the new rule and the PL investigates us for screwing the kid over? Textbook.
